Lightbulb If You Had $140-160K CAD Before Tax To Spend On A Porsche, Which P Car Would You Buy?

I'd like to bring up a question specifically for fellow Canadians who are currently on the lookout for their dream Porsche cars. With the recent increase in interest rates, high inflation, and a supposed minor recession, we've noticed that some used car prices have decreased, including Porsche models, depending on the make and mileage. Despite this, we still see some P cars sitting unsold for more than four months due to their initial overpricing, asking for last year's hot market pricing.

With that being said, let's get down to business: if you had $140-160K before tax to spend on a Porsche:

1) Which Porsche car would you consider buying and why? P cars I have in mind in the range are 718 GT4, 991.2 GTS, 991.2 Targa C4S, 997.2 Turbo, or 997.1 GT3
2) Would you opt to purchase now, or wait for pricing to potentially decrease further?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions!

I'd buy my 2015 991.1 4GTS because it's the best car I've ever owned.

I would wait it out and buy the same car that is currently listed in the $170k - $190k range.

I love this game. I personally would be torn between a water cooled turbo model (996 or 997.1 only, everything after is inaccessible to the DIY-er in me) and getting an air-cooled classic. Both options would be ending up in a Safari build. But it will be a while till I can budget for a 2nd 911.

So Even though our '79 930 just arrived in your price range lol I would probably pick up a 997.1 Turbo again, or a 991.1..... Ahhh there are just so many choices. It really depends on what you are looking to do with it. 996 Turbo is also great value, 997.2's are great cars. I don't think there is a wrong answer.

driver-grade 996GT2 if you can find one, or a mint 996GT3

There is a 2015 GTS convertible at Porsche Centre Downtown for $135k ! If it was a coupe it would have been preferable for me anyways....

Which car depends on how you plan to use the vehicle. Only the 991s and the 997 Turbo could be considered 350+ day-a -year drivers in Calgary (which is a prerequisite for any Porsche I own). The GT3 would be the most fun to drive of the bunch, with the GT4 a close second but both are best suited to occasional rather than daily use. Personally, I'd rather have a 981 GT4 than a 718, and IMO the most unique and interesting Porsche in that price range would be a 981 Spyder (decidedly NOT a year-round DD lol).

EDIT: At the top of that price range C2 and C4 992s with a few km on them can be had (despite asking prices online that are higher). I'd take any 992 over any 991 (save a GT3) 8 days a week.

That is surprising, especially given what replaced it. I loved my .1 GTS but I don't think about it when driving my RS.

How long would you wait it out for? Q3 Q4 this year?

That is a great price for 991.1 GTS but too bad it's a Convertible. Definitely need a coupe in Calgary weather here haha!!!

I remember seeing a White 991.1 GTS coupe with the interior completely red out and was sitting for a long time until someone bought it I think for around $125K range late last year.

That is a great valid point and was curious why you would choose 981 over the new 718 GT4? Is it the driving experience and the pricing?

This ^^^ . I found it’s night and day from the 997 GTS it replaced. Be patient, find one with a G6 replacement engine. You should be able find one with moderate miles for your price range. Note, a lot of sellers may know their .1 had an engine replacement at one time but have no clue whether it was a G6 so if you are faced with a 991.1 GT3 you like, be prepared to ask for (pay for?) the engine undertray to be pulled and the stamping on the block to be inspected. Then if you know it has a G6, and the seller has no clue of its value, it’s probably a killer deal!
