Testing is relatively easy. If someone tests and finds an ethanol negative station, let us all know !

I was thinking about that having verified 3 fuels tested so far. My level of trust is pretty well non-existent which is why I never hire any trades or have anyone working on my vehicles, etc.

The Ultamar in my area lists 91 as ethanol-free. I'll have to test it.

1) does that mean you have actually found some ethanol free this year?

2) I concur with trades and car work. Unfortunately, I have yet to develop the skills to do work on full size trees, or to do a nice tig butt weld on thin wall stainless tubing.

1) my tests were done in 2021. See dates in the Excel spreadsheet further up this thread. And I wonder if many do not add ethanol during the winter period that are normally ethanol-free during the summer.

2) masters are hard to find. I love watching YouTube videos on welding (6061 and Welding Tips & Tricks), PDR and PPF applicators. Those guys I have to bow to. I have a nice full featured 250A TIG which I have yet to use coming from oxy-acetylene as I like feeding my welding rods as compared to using MIG.

I used to get gas at 1 of 2 Ultramars near my cottage for the boats/toys. On several occasions, I've had gas related issues with the outboards. As did my neighbour. We got gas same day coincidently and were having identical problems. No I only use Shell or Petro Canads. So, I would just be concerned about using Ultramar gas.

The important thing is to have injectors that do not leak. So you can use a Top-Tier fuel to hopefully prevent injector deposits and leaks or use a fuel injector cleaner twice a year. In the past, I used to use Chevron Techron.

As far as bore scoring is concerned, I have never heard of it in any other cars and I have had a few non-Porsche vehicles with aluminum engine blocks with high mileages in the last 2+ decades.

All gasoline sold in at the pump by law as of Nov 2022 is E10. Doesn’t matter the grade it’s all min 10% ethanol. There are only a handful of refineries and suppliers too. All fuel is “Top Tier” Costco, Petro Can etc

Ultramar is Parkland/ Valero. Costco is supplied by Husky locally. reason why shell is a bit more, here anyways is because they import pretty much all fuel to the east coast from refineries in NL. Not sure about GTA area

Greg, I was wondering about what's up in QC. Our local Hudson Shell still has the no ethanol stickers, but it's a dumpy station so probably too lazy to remove them. Or clean up for that matter.

all fuel is E10 now. November 2022 was the switchover for Canada with some provinces having a “hard date” I guess they’re just lazy to put stickers on at most stations. Ontario and Quebec is going to require E15 by 2030 and the feds are moving in the same direction. Quebec was as of 1st Jan 2023 by an Order in Council. Read Chapter 2

I don't know what is going on with Shell gas pump stickers but I do know it would be illegal to sell gasoline advertised as ethanol free when in fact it contains ethanol.

That is not entirely correct. All fuel distributed by distributors must have 10% biofuel content ON AVERAGE - but the regulations say absolutely nothing about every type and grade of fuel having to contain biofuel. In other words, if a station sells E85, for every 100L of E85 sold (15L gasoline, 85L Ethanol) they could sell an additional 835L of pure gasoline and still meet the 10% requirement. So - while pretty much all retail pumps now pump out E10 across all grades, it is because of simplicity of distribution and storage, not because every single liter of fuel than comes out of the pump has to contain 10% Ethanol by law. The average of all fuel sold across all grades has to contain 10% Ethanol by volume, but it says nothing about how said Ethanol has to be sold. A station could sell 100L of pure Ethanol and 900L of pure gas and still meet the requirement in Quebeckistan.

Ontario actually has an even more liberal interpretation of the biofuel content requirement, but again, the problem is that for them to be able to sell Ethanol-free gas, they would need to sell gas with even higher Ethanol content to offset the same. In other words, pumps can legally still sell it, buy they would obviously obviously also have to sell fuel with more them 10% Ethanol content to offset any potential sales of Ethanol-free fuel, and for your average corner station it makes zero sense to have dedicated storage tanks. Any of the four fuel stations in Canada (all of which are in BC) that sell E85 - assuming that some people actually buy E85 - can technically sell Ethanol-free fuel and still meet the 10% requirement. Ethanol-free gas has now become a specialty market, so if you want Ethanol-free fuel, you'll need to go to Mosport or order a barrel from VP race fuels.

I guess the best way is to test it which I will do later this summer, long after winter gas has been exhausted.
