Default ON - Vehicle Valuation for Probate

Good afternoon gents. Unfortunately my 77 year old dad passed away unexpectedly yesterday. I was curious if anyone has experience in obtaining a vehicle valuation for probate purposes. My dad was an avid Jaguar for the majority of his life since picking up a v12 e-Type when he had 4 young kids and could ill afford to do so 😀. I think spousal discussions were more one way in nature in those days!! His current car is a 2017 f-Type R which will have to sell in the spring. Thanks in advance.

Not sure it has to be for probate, but I know a couple of appraisers.

PM me if you’re interested

On a 2017 a UVIP’s retail value should be sufficient. If you feel that his too high or too low get an appraisal.

Thanks gents. I’m not sure if I would argue with the value being too low in that it will be used to establish amount of estate tax being paid 😀

My condolences on the loss of your Dad.

I used the wholesale value on the UVIP for my Dads vehicle (2015 Acura MDX) when he passed in 2020. Zero issue thus far from the govt in relation to what we used and submitted for the probate calc on his vehicle through my lawyer.

Frankly its yet another disgusting repetitive tax on vehicles by greedy govts. In his case he was the 3td owner so they had already collected HST 3 times on said vehicle + the probate after he passed. Criminal taxation IMHO

Thanks Phil - much appreciated. Doing well thanks. Amazing how quickly you go from starting to digest the news to planning a celebration of life, cleaning out condo etc. I'm fortunate to have three GTA siblings so I'm not doing any of it in isolation.

Cheers.

There isn't. I assumed this was for distribution with the will.
