On my old E36 M3, it cost me $450 for a new key as the original one had worn so hard. At the time (2008/2009?) not many third parties were avaialble in Vancouver to code a key so the local BMW dealers were my only option. I hope this has changed.
bmw orders the key directly from Munich. It comes ready to work.

Through a referral from another RL member I got this solved today

A fellow who is with a company called ENSUNLOCKS (east end near Steeles and Midland) supplied a new complete key/fob which means the blade, RFI "pill" sensor and door locks circuit board.

He cut the key using my existing key. He contacted Porsche in Atlanta with my VIN and received the necessary instructions to program my car to accept the new key he provided.

I now have two working keys. He takes VISA, and of course provides a receipt.

His name is Enie.

He charged me a reasonable rate - not cheap - but I think reasonable based on what I've been seeing in my research.

PM me if you want more info.

Jack
