Default Rain X washer fluid and VAG washer fluid sensors

The current formulation of Rain X WW fluid seems to coat the washer fluid reservor sensors on modern VW's and Audis. I assume it does the same with Porsches... I had to clean the sensor on my wife's q7 so that the low washer fluid light would shut off.

I used to really love Rain X washer fluid when it 1st came out.... What are you guys using now?

I'm thinking about trying aquapel on the windshield...

aquapel - ? not fake aquapel - ? not fake

If you haven't realized it yet.... Porsches do not melt in the rain, contrary to popular belief.... Took me almost 10 yrs before I figured this out, relief when I found out what the stalk on the right side of the steering wheel was for.... :P

I like the Aquapel and use on my cars and SUVs. One of the biggest advantages is the ease to clean up bug splatter. Light rain and low speeds, the wipers are still needed. Heavier rain and highway driving, the wipers are not needed.

Never knew the difference, I just put whatever winter or summer glop is in season. I learn something every day.

Same. Whatever I pick up at Wally World goes in all my vehicles and never have any issues.

it seems to take a few years for the rain x to foul up the WW fluid sensor.... it can be slowed down I think by diluting the good stuff, with regular blue in the winter, or water in the summer...

yes I do that.... I am that cheap.

how long would you say the coating lasts?

On the Porsches, with driving season April-October, I re-coat each driving season while the car sits in winter hibernation.

Strange, that- I have a 18 year old Smart, 14 year old GT3RS ,just sold a 14 year old Cayenne and have a 19 year old Mercedes and have put any old stuff in all of them, but never had a problem- I wonder if it is specific to a some models.

my VAG's that had issues are both 15's..... maybe the older ones used a different sensors... or didn't have low fluid warnings on them... I don't recall my 02 Jetta or 06 Jetta having a windshield washer fluid low warning, or my 21yr old boxster.... although the boxster barely ever gets caught in the rain...and I don't fill it very often... only with winter stuff

It was not an issue to recently, the interwebs said they changed the formulation not too long ago... (maybe in the past few years?)

It's the hydrophobic stuff they put in RAINx that fouls the sensor in the reservoir...

at least that's what I think...

I stopped using RainX because I found when using the intermittent wipers the water would smear on the windshield.
