Calling All Ontario Cayman R Owners
Hello! Recently picked a Cayman R (bought from a friend). Love it! Curious about all the other Cayman Rs in Southern Ontario, a friend of mine has a Platinum Silver one, what about the others? Maybe we can even meet up since it's the 10th anniversary this year!

Thanks @Abe Evrens
@needmoregarage looks like it could be your old car cause still has Giros upfront, got it from a friend (friend to friend sale).

Destro - I’d be surprised if it was my old car but I suppose it’s possible.
I sold mine to a collector in Malibu. He sent me a few photos of part of his collection in one of his warehouses. My little Cayman R was in amongst 959, ‘73RS, special race cars and many beautiful Porsches. Believe it or not - I asked him for first right of refusal if he ever went to sell, and he told me it’s in his will.
About two years ago, one of his collection care-takers called me asking about the seats. It had the LWB which were standard, with no additional upcharge and I don’t think they were listed on the window sticker. They thought I put them in myself, and wanted to know if I had the original seats LOL! Of course I explained, and he understood. The owner had a hip replacement and needed seats that allowed easier ingress/egress.
As far as I know the car is still in CA and the owner bought it so he and his daughter could enjoy tracking it. I had put a Cantrell 1/2 cage in and as far as I know the cage is still in place. I also put in Fabspeed headers and sport cats. Mine didn’t come with sport exhaust. I was at Mosport during a club race combined with solo HPDE, and of course in my run group there were plenty of race cars out doing their test/tune. I could not hear my car, as it was drowned out by all the traffic around me. Since I shift typically by sound (and not looking at the tach), it was annoying. So when I got home I did some research and got some great advice. The mods “woke up” the exhaust note and successfully avoided drone. I sold the car with all mods and all OEM parts.
It’s the only car I’ve ever sold that I actually miss, and regret selling. The GT4s have been great and of course “on paper” do everything better (except steering feel). But there is something intangible about the Cayman R that makes it really special. I’ve talked to other owners (who also own a GT4 of either/both generation) who say the same thing. And the Peridot is not only a great color, it’s also really easy to live with (hides dirt very well).
Enjoy your gorgeous car and savor every kilometer!

@needmoregarage I guess that's -1 from the 61 Canadian cars in Canada.
Mine has Giros upfront, painted GMG roll cage, buckets, pdk, PSE, cargraphic headers and IPD plenum. So similar mods but likely a different car based on your story. Seems like many of these Peridot cars were spec'd and modded for more pleasure driving purposes (track, backroad runs).
I ordered a GT4 (no allocation yet) over a year ago, so felt like this would be a great bridge till that comes if it comes at this point, but yeah the newer cars are much more sterile.
And I totally get it, the Cayman R is so much more than the sum of its parts... it was such a deal back when it came out, but so overlooked. Makes sense that they are popping now, as many people are discovering their greatness thanks to the great success of the GT4, this was the original.

I apologize for “crashing” this Canadian thread. I get sentimental and feel a certain “kinship” when I read about Cayman Rs, especially Peridot! If it helps, I grew up in Buffalo and spent most of my summers in Canada in Niagara on the Lake. I have great memories of my times in Canada. We used to sail across to Toronto a few times each summer for a race, and also to go to the CNE and Ontario Place.
My car was always a USA car. I bought it used at Porsche Delaware and they sold it new to the original owner who traded it back in to buy a different Porsche. I bought it in 2013 with about 6000 miles. Enjoyed another blissful 20,000 miles over the next few years and sold to the guy in Malibu in Dec 2015 after ordering my first GT4 which arrived April 2016.
I also had IPD Plenum, GT3 throttle body and master cylinder. My original master cylinder failed shortly after I got it home. The only other significant service item was the AOS which failed about a year later (at Watkins Glen). My dealer who supports our track events was able to overnight the part, and I only missed an afternoon of track time and was back in business by Saturday morning at 10 am. But the best part was that at least four different people offered to put my car in their trailer, and I drive their car home, so I could avoid a tow. What a great community of people that I had those types of offers from multiple folks.
Good luck getting your GT4. Mine is PDK (after owning two 981 GT4: Racing Yellow and Agate Grey). I also loved the 981, and the 718 is that much better at everything. Plus I’m enjoying the PDK after 10 years of manual track cars.
I did have the Cayman R and the first GT4 in the garage at the same time for a few months. I was surprised that they’re about the same size, because the R feels smaller and more nimble. I was enticed by the newer, more powerful version, and also I loved the look and lines of the GT4. BUT…the Cayman R will always be the car that taught me how to drive. It was the lowest HP/torque car I owned up to that point, and was the first car that didn’t have the power to make up for choosing the wrong gear on track. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I have a big soft spot for the car. But they’re just GREAT cars!! If we had another garage I’d probably still have it.
Enjoy and don’t be too quick to give it up. I know of a few folks who got their GT4 and kept their R, and ultimately decided to sell the GT4. To each their own!
The drive home from picking up the GT4 near Cleveland.

No worries, good to have a conversation about these cars, point of the thread.
Also nice seeing the "father" and "son" together. And yes agree with you on the size, the 997 is the biggest I'd like to go, and these new 911s are so giant, feels good to be in a smaller car!
My previous Carrera S was the most hardcore factory spec possible, but not hardcore enough, when I sold my car last spring, it made total sense to move to a GT4 than spend that money on upgrading the Carrera, which already had GT3 LCAs on it. The Cayman R basically has most of the upgrades I would have done to my Carrera, so its great. And wanted to try out PDK on the track. My GT4 order is a manual, but its good to mix it up. I am so happy with the colour, would be wild to do PTS Peridot on a GT4.
Now its time to make some memories

One of my best friends has a green Cayman R 6MT and buckets. Hes not active on rennlist though.
I've never seen another green CR other than his in GTA. Super rare cars!
Congratulations on the pick up!

I spotted a Cayman R, in the same colour, this past long weekend, but in Vancouver! Beautiful car! The Cayman R is a lot of fun to drive, it reminds me a lot of my S2k CR, except with a lot more torque.
My friend’s black Cayman R.

@LastMezger Not sure if Canada Press had multiple of them, but yeah the one in the articles looks very similar but has slightly different options.
@Speed2k @danio Thanks!
