Default End of 3G will affect many Porsches

Telematics that are 3G-based will cease to function next year in the US- assume Canada similar. Porsche models listed in the article:

Likely Porsche and the carriers will come to a solution to swap out the radio chipset to enable 4G/5G. It's just a matter of when and whether owners will opt for the update.

I wouldn't count on that as the chips are embedded down in the telematics radio modem module, so more likely that you might get the option of replacing the whole radio modem which is often buried somewhere inaccessible in the car.

All that adds up to $$$$ and the OEM's probably won't see the interest to get this done. Also they are far more interested in building the next generation of vehicles as opposed to updating cars they sold years ago....

As far as I know, the Canadian carriers are not scheduled to "sunset" 3G until 2025. That isn't written in stone, however and may move up.
