Someone made a reference to the fellow who leaves his cars outside in front pad parking and suggested they buy a better house instead of cars. My point is “we don’t know what people can afford or want to afford or perhaps values …”. Hence hard to judge simply because of one’s home that may not be perfect examples for the cars that sit on their pads. Maybe the owner just doesn’t care enough ?? Who knows …

You leave cars like that on the street or drive in my hood and it will get wacked for sure with either a hockey ball / stick / football / soccer / basketball or some other device of play . The average person is impervious to nice cars and couldn't give a damn because it's not theirs.

Another problem not mentioned so far is trees. I live in a wooded area, and all the leaves, seeds and needles plug up the heating system and drains

I want to leave this house and Toronto entirely ......Too much B.S here now besides I can sell my house here downtown for serious cash and buy a palace around King City with a 4+ garage !! with space and still bank at least 1m + from the sale .... I am tired of the cookie cutter nice home cheek to cheek houses here in the core.

I would gladly leave last night from the core - Toronto is over-rated and this from someone who was born and raised here but fortunate enough to have travelled well in my life. They can keep it and all the bloody condos too ... I am one of the fortunate ones with a garage and private parking for 3 cars wide and still find it unlivable. Agreed..................................A

Where have you been that's so much better than TO?

As a person married to a Greek, for example, I've heard so much whining from Greeks here about how Greece is so much better. Unfortunately, every single working age person I know that went back, they all returned to canada. They just could not hack working in greece, or the bureaucracy. I'd love to retire to greece, but let's face it, health care there does not measure up. I've never seen a defibrillator in any public space. In mani where we have a home, its 45 minutes to the nearest hospital, and no helicopter will come to get you.

Where you live is a sum of many things. The sum in toronto is substantial

Amazing. I love Toronto and can not imagine living north of Eglinton. The only time I need a car is to head out of town and the GF supplies that. Great places to walk, single track mountain bike trails and paved paths through wilderness, local bar with fab friends, dozens of restaurants, every retail outlet you can think of within walking distance and extensive nearby medical care. Unlimited cheap year round under ground parking nearby. I grew up in car oriented suburbs and hate them. Donated my last winter beater to The Kidney Foundation 25 years ago and never replaced it. If I have to go somewhere further than walking distance, I take an electric vehicle - the subway. I get picked up by a ski bus a 6 minute walk from my front door every Wednesday and sleep on the way north. My only problem with Toronto is the socialist politicians and environmentalists running the place. Thankfully none of them frequent my local bar where we all bitch about them.

I could answer that question many ways but it would take effort. Let me say this much - "each country including Canada has a place in people's life cycle and not each country or city for that matter is the most optimal place "all the time" but works "some of the time". Hence, why we get Canadians that live in the US for half the year and return the other half. Frankly it depends on "how" you live and "what" you deem important. Since you mentioned health care - I have 16 physicians in my family (both sides) - YES 16 ! I have news for you, unless you are connected in Ontario and get ill you are SOL. I know how it works - my late mother diagnosed with cancer in the US not Canada because the brain surgeons here couldn't find a simple growth in her stomach - she died sadly because of the incompetence here. My dear friend age 44 died too of sheer incompetence (cancer again) ........many more tragic examples. We have a 2 tier system alive and well ... unless of course you are one of the fortunate 1% and go to MedCan yearly? Health is over-rated ! I know the system intimately and also have a startup in the med space ...

As for Greece which you mentioned on your own, I made "zero" reference to Greece by the way so not sure why we are comparing or referencing to the "whinning greeks" .... we make our beds on our own ... and live with our decisions.

So let me say this - since other Canadians find their pleasure in Arizona, California, Florida and other wonderful destinations, I find my pleasure in Greece and I live very well there 2+ months every year ! I access "private care" because I can and I live in one of the best areas of Athens "because I can" - so at my age mid 50's I am afforded that because of the great country I was born and raised in which is Canada BUT that doesn't mean it works all the time and where you are in your life cycle. That was my point here ... you said it yourself that you too would "consider retiring there" ....

BTW- we own land in Koroni, Kalamata where my maternal grandfather is from - spectacular. There is a reason why German's have bought Kalamata almost exclusively and every other foreign investor is busy gobbling up Greece ...

This is my paradise ....

On the Aegean Rivera ... this is home !

Don't get me started on Canada's worst in the developed world health care. I hear the anecdotal disaster stories from my medical friends which the data clearly shows. We wealthy do have an option for great health care. It's called USA. Medcan 'eh. I'm going to check it out.
