Question Don't see a lot of 968s for sale in Canada

I recall seeing one last year in the autotrader but didn't know much about them at the time... haven't seen any since then but there's usually a bunch on Ebay all the time... just wondering why there isn't a lot of 968s for sale in Canada?

Craig Lemon in Oakville(www.pca.org/ucr and look under the classified section) has a very, very clean 1992 968 (slate grey and black interior). He has all records from day one and it does look new. I know that he is asking $29k but he is willing to consider offers. My friend was looking at it but has opted for an E 36 M3 if he can get one for the right money. Alternatively, Randy Meyers at Whaletail in Waterloo has a slate grey one as well. It was originally a US car but he's had it for a long time. I know that he's done thr ring and pinion, timing belt, cam chain, etc and his price is better than Craig Lemon's. Call him at 519-699-4911. The last one that I have seen is white with black interior at Heimrath in Scarborough. I don't know how clean it is.

I do - it appears to be a total wreck. I have no idea how a car with milage indicated as less than 100k kms (can't recall but think it was 78k kms?) could be so baffed. Seats are ripped - dash is horribly cracked and the shifter **** is worn through. If this is the state of the interior - I can barely imagine the mechanicals. I hope the price reflects the condition.

I didn't investigate - there might be a totally plausible explanation and Heimwrath might be planning a total interior refit prior to sale. I just looked through the windows when there to pick up some parts and was saddened by the condition. I think the 968's are really special cars and was aghast at seeing how someone - somewhere - let this one deteriorate.

Craig's car is super clean and Randy's car is very nice (it has nice, cup wheels in matching body colour) and suspension mods (Konis and Eibach springs).

I checked out Craig Lemon's car last year when it was on sale. Lovely car. Very well maintained. Just not sure if a 968 is for me. 29k is a bit but it comes with option 220! But not sport suspension though. There's a 94 968 at autotrader going for 39k.

Ralley Guy ... I am a friend of Marios so I have a bit more insight on the 968.

It is a Florida car and the odo is in miles. Interior has put up with the hot Florida sun, hence it's present state. The mechanicals are good with a few minor repairs required.

Mario keeps the cars in the shape he gets it in so people can see what they looked like when he gets them.. Once a deal is signed, he fixes the car up. I have also driven the car and it is not bad. Still not as fast as my 951!!!! I am a confirmed boost head!

It is better to see what the car looked like as aposed to what has been hidden with repairs and clean-up. I have seen Mario refuse cars in poor shape or sold them off real cheap with the owner aware of it's short commings.

All good points - and I hope I made it clear that I was leaving room for a back story. Miles and sun explain A LOT of what I saw! And of course - I didn't drive it.

Conversely - it DID make me feel a bit smug getting back into my 265k kms '90 S2 which has a pretty nice interior compared to that 968.

I do also agree with the practice of "leave it as is till it's sold - then fix it" approach. I would much rather see the "true" nature of the car and then negotiate fixes.

But I'm still sad to think of this excellent car being neglected to such an extent. Let's hope a real enthusiast picks it up and restores it to it's former glory.

That's kinda my mission with my S2.

A 968 is listed in the Montreal area (check www.hebdo.net), price seems reasonable although mileage is not mentioned (21,700$).

Perhaps you should consider importing from the US, it's done more and more even by dealers I take it, and if you're not comfortable with the administrative process some guys can help out.

Regards,
Chris

I would probably not even bother with the car in Montreal unless it was fully documented.

You know the routine with cars from Montreal. I have seen way too many odometer scams from there. Too each his own. Be careful.

Nevermind. I found it and;
1- It's sold
2- It's not an RS America

I was wondering why it didn't have the wing, looked a bit high and had the older style mirrors.

Why is it so hard to find an RS America?

Delhi,

They had that one posted as an RS America for months....Maybe someone told them it was a simple 964 and they changed it.
