Default Canadian Porsches Languishing in Halifax Waiting for the US EPA

My SA emailed to say delivery of my new boxster is being held up by the EPA. It arrived in halifax 6 Aug, but I won't take delivery until October. It will sit in the port till then. I hope it's at least in a building and sheltered from the waves.

My first reaction was: EPA? isn't this canada? Some internet research showed that canada has basically adopted US regulations, and that any car that passes US regs is good for canada. Porsche Canada is effectively having the US responsible for certifying its cars,

Am I misinformed? Am I a victim of trump's gutting of the EPA with biden not yet having brought back staffing levels?

I had the identical experience with my Panamera ST Turbo. It was several months. Same reason.

Don't think that really is it... (source is EPA website)

I think this is more the long-tail of the dieselgate knock-on...

I had the same issue with my Performante back in 2018. Production completed in July but my car sat in Italy until December because of EPA & CARB delays. It might take weeks or months.

I can promise you it is not in a building, or covered. It'll just sit there until it ships. We've been through this on the 4.0L stop sale.

I'd hoped they were stored inside, but I doubt it. Halifax has these vast parking lots, some just meters from the water. Months worth of exposure to salty sea air. I wonder how many people know how their new gt2 rs is being treated.

I'm starting to think that new car purchases are like sausage making. You don't want to know how it is being done.

If that's the case, then why do we need a Canadian EPA (Environment Canada)?
Languishing for months at the port? It's the government's way of delaying the sale until the luxury tax kicks in, I bet.
How can they allow this on high value goods that are bringing in tax revenue?

I searched the below website for porsche 2022 and found no documents. Were some for 2021 but not as many as I would have expected.

They are.probably no longer “rubber stamping” the certifications so they actually have to do their job now, which takes time.

It looks like all 2021 4.0 engine boxsters and caymans were certified on Nov 5, 2020. Let’s hope the certification for the 2022 models doesn't happen in November.

The 911s MY2021 were dates October 2020, but they were based on previous years’ 911 and the document notes that the 2021 model year had “no substantial difference” to prior years.

So why not hurry up and just approve the MY 2022 already!
