The Porsche tax I got hit with was nuts.

Contractor showed up early and quoted (i'm not even joking) $110K for a detached single car garage.

Not surprised - I was getting some quotes done to enclose a covered porch at the back of my house and I had one contractor tell me 'we're $100K' before he even looked at the job!!

You must do all of the work yourself and the ESA permit is twice as much as charged to a licensed electrician. $500 as I recall, and it’s because the inspector has to really do the inspection. Electricians have a deal going where their work is pre approved due to some kind of competency demonstration. I like doing electrical and it helps that I was trained by a master electrician many moons ago, he taught me to be meticulous in every aspect of the work. I still remember a lesson he taught me when he said, ‘remember this, one day you may be called to a coroners inquest to explain why you did what you did.

The covid tax is a real thing. We are having a new HVAC system installed and while prices were about what I expected it's still 25% more and basically was told "you need to sign by the end of the week for installation before June" I brushed that off as a sales tactic.. sadly it wasn't.. also had to get my electrician friend in to run a new wire etc outside. He said it's insane how busy everyone is, shortage of materials as well has left some jobs at a standstill.

I've done a bunch of electrical in my own home.... just don't cut too many corners. And have it inspected either by ESA or an electrician....

There's no either...it must be inspected by the ESA to be legal.

Legal yes, safe - no...

You think everyone perusing the electrical aisles at HD is getting an inspection?

You're allowed to change switches/plugs/fixtures without a permit, but anyway, the point I was making is that an electrician cannot on their own approve your work from a legal sense and hence it's not an "or" situation, you must get an ESA inspection even if an electrician has looked at it.

I had heard the same, however I only need a handful (like 6) and my nearest HD store has close to 100 in stock with 2 other stores in a 8k radius. I only need 15A so perhaps the shortage is on the big boy stuff.

I just added additional outlets in my garage for car lift and Porsche charger. Garage had 2 outlets. Now has 9 to ensure I never need extension cords. Safe? yes. Legal? No

Assuming that another 30 outlets aren't on the same circuit as the initial 2 of course.

Dedicated circuit to the garage. Garage lighting on a separate circuit.

Basement is fully finished and panel is 50 feet away. I would have run 2 more circuits otherwise. House has 200 amp service and all electrical is less than 2 years old. Has 200 amp service due the hot tub and laundry room is equipped with dual washers and dryers. and it is only a 2 bedroom house lol.

Guy that renoed the house went overkill on the house. Unfortunately, not a car guy so besides a beautiful garage door, didn't do anything special to the garage except a new pad. I'm fixing up the garage prior to move in. Lift gets installed in mid April.

I have the issue in the basement and garage. Not enough outlets and the ones that are there... In the worst spots ever
