Default Outdoor car cover?

I’m toying with getting my old S2 back on the road and using as a “clean, dry day” fun car over the winter. It would have to be parked in my driveway though, and I wonder if there’s a suitable cover to keep it clean and undamaged by sun, snow etc.

Any recommendations?

RK

I'm hesitant about outdoor car covers. I have the porsche one, and wind blows dirt/dust underneath it, and then it swirls around. Then, you have dust/dirt between the cover and the paint, with the cover moving around a bit in the wind. Essentially, causing very light sanding.

In my opinion, save the money, keep the car outside, and get a solid paint correction or ceramic coating done in the spring.

While that might work for some, it’s not aligned with my needs. My interior is in great shape, my paint is not. So a cover is the right approach for this car. Replacing a cracked dash (mine is perfect) is much less appealing than touching up some paint scuffs, should that come to pass.

So, keen to hear what people recommend for outdoor storage.

If you go with the cover, are you going to go out and put it on a few hours after you have driven the car? You should let it cool down a bit before covering it. I drive my cars in any weather, so I know I would not do this all the time.

I've personally been considering buying a Sun shade sail for my driveway. My neighbors have a tree that drops sap all summer and I'm tired of trying clean it off. Maybe that is an option for you if your main concern is the sun. Set it up in the spring when you pull the car out and take it down in the fall when you put the car away. The good sails are rated for 100kmh wind speeds.

I would be more worried about damage to the dash and all plastics from freezing temperatures, and our crazy winter temperature swings then I would be from UV during the winter.

Here is a link to the website where I had my cover made. They are in Bolton so not to far for you. Mine is an inside cover but I'm sure they can help you out.

Get something like this if you have the room but secure it well else it'll blow away.

i have heard they are not allowed in many areas , but i would do that if it was ... protects the car from the elements and no hassle to keep taking off and putting on.

One of my neighbours has a Ford Edsel. Yes you read that correctly. They have a regular car cover on it all year. Surprisingly, car looks great although I am sure full of micro scratches.

I would never put a car cover on a car outside.

Outdoor covers never work. False sense of security.

I wish I could, but they don't want to cut it down since it is old and healthy (50+ feet). Grumpy old lady that doesn't understand why I need more than one vehicle and why I don't park in the garage. Well, that's where the race car sits and aren't cars like Lay's chips, 'betcha can't have just one'. Or do I have a problem?

I agree the wind will find a way to rub the paint right off the car where the cover rubs. I leave my Cayenne outside all year funny if its not driven it stays cleaner then my cars that are covered in a garage. The snow/rain keeps it clean. Only thing I would do is get wheel covers to protect the rotors from rusting.

No problem that I can see!!! My neighbour has a willow tree planted 8' from the lot line (60' residential lot) that drops crap in my pool all summer. I have kept it trimmed back to the lot line to the extent I can reach with my trimmer, however it's also now in the 50' category and I'm not one for climbing trees, nor do I have a harness etc. to do so. At this point a lightning strike or spending $500 for an arborist hair cut are my only options.
