Off topic - Wine fridges/coolers
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy two, under the counter wine fridges for our bar in the basement. I am looking at single-zone options, as we'll have two. I'm also looking to keep the price down, as these things can get out of hand relatively quickly. From what I've learned so far, I'm leaning towards one of:
Thanks.

- Wine Cell'R 46 - $750 - Good value, stupid name. It looks good, although I'm a bit worried with the lack of reviews
- Danby 50 bottle - $900 - Again, good value and reasonable name. Holds lots (comparatively), although the looks are not the best. Also, not sure if the shelves are adjustable.
- Titan 50 bottle - $1700 - Way more expensive than what I want to spend, but the shelves come out fully, and it's designed for larger wine bottles.
Thanks.

Not much help but this is what I do when drinking white wine or beer. If they are warm, I throw them into the freezer for a bit and then when they feel cold enough I transfer them into the fridge. 30-45 minutes in the freezer (not the deep freezer) is enough.

Just go to Consumer Reports. Ive had 2 Avanti wine coolers. both crapped out after 4-6 months. Second one dealer said $500 for a new module. He also said Avanti was crap. Went to Best Buy and got a under the counter Frigidaire 2 zone for white and red. No problems after 2 yrs.

I have 2 Danby 50 bottle fridges that have been doing a great job since 2008!
We run through the 100 bottles at least once per year. I built a custom enclosure for them. If I was cellaring 100 bottles of $300 bordeaux, I would have a different set up, but for $20 table wine, they were great value.
I am also pretty sure I only paid $350 per fridge.

i'm not that cultured....
aren't wine fridges those ones in the fancy kitchens that don't actually keep stuff cold - no matter how low you turn it down?

I started with a wine cooler but it is a bit of a waste of time if all you want it to temperature-control wine. If you have a short term need to serve 20 bottles of wine when fair enough. I keep a fair bit of wine, but it is for ageing, so a wine cooler will not do it.
I have some proper space in the basement. Some of the wine has been there for 15 years, other stuff for months...depends on the wine.

Air craft parts are more expensive, because they say aircraft.
Boat parts are more expensive because they are boating.
Be careful when shopping.
A wine fridge, cools to a temperature. ie 46F. That is not cold.
A fridge gets cold. 36F ie.
There are under counter unites and open style units. Under counter have venting on the front, to evacuate the heat.
Do a rear vent, close it in, and the unit will overheat and crap out? tout suite.
I'm a hillbilly, and like my fridge cold. Wine, cold. Beer? Into a frozen mug. It is at temperature when that frozen hockey puck floats to the surface.
I bought a Danby, fridge. All fridge, no icebox. Front exhaust, adjustable glass shelves. 200 bucks, vacuum out the coils every few years. 13+ years old.
Brother bought a expensive wine cooler, replaces it every five years. 300 dollar service calls.
