Good Porsche Exhaust Shop in Mississauga?
Can anyone recommend a shop to do a welding repair/modification reversal on a 997 exhaust? I have a new to me car that turns out to have a peculiar exhaust mod. It looks like one side of the exhaust all needs to come apart and the upper piece brought to a bench to have a bizarre slot that someone cut into one of the pipes up there welded up. The slot is maybe 30mm long and 3 or 4mm wide. I don't see how it could be repaired without taking it all apart. I think it must have been taken apart to do this weird thing in the first place. Somebody put some effort into it, but it's just not right and it doesn't sound good to me either. I'm now looking for someone that is competent to disassemble a Porsche exhaust and can weld. Any tips?

Eric, I assume this was done to the mufflers. They are pretty easy to remove on the 996, can't imagine the 997 to be that much different. If you can pull them off the car, any descent muffler shop can do whatever you need. Can you post pics of the mod?

Hi Imre. Thanks for the welcome, I am really enjoying the car.
I have been looking at the drawings in PET some more, and I now see that the cut has been made on a pipe that is part of the muffler on the input side. The one that has been modified/damaged is the LHS (drivers) side muffler. I have only had the car a couple of weeks and I still know very little about working on it. I have lots of tools and a reasonable amount of experience but I need this repair done over a short period of time, since it is my daily driver, and my garage is occupied with my 928, which is apart. The current weather is not at all conducive to working in the driveway. We got almost a foot of snow at my house a couple of days ago. I had this fantasy that I could find someone reliable in Mississauga to do it during the day while I was at work. So, far no luck on that. If I had another drivers side muffler I could probably do the swap myself during a weekend. I know a shop that I would trust to do the weld, they did some good work for me on the 928 exhaust, and I'm sure they'd weld it up for less than $100, but I need the car to drive: I can't be taking the muffler off and taking it to a shop. I'm sure I'll find a solution to this seemingly simple problem, but I haven't yet.
It's not easy to get a picture of the cut with the car on the ground. Especially with ice and slush in the driveway. I have seen it when the car was up on a lift getting its Safety Inspection. This mod. should have made the car fail the inspection, but I know the inspector and since I was buying (not selling) the car he passed it, with us both agreeing that it should get fixed.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Interestingly(?), the shop that I mentioned that had done good work on my 928 exhaust is Centerline Motorsports! As you say, Zookie, they are good guys. They are not as close to me as Adam's recommendation, though. I think I'll need to Uber it back and forth so closer would be nice. JPG is only about 10km away, vs. almost 30km for Centerline.

I am curious about the 'Fister' muffler mod. I did not know of it until this week. I watched a YouTube video where a guy did a before and after he had the mod done. It sounded good after. Do you have the standard/normal rear/centre muffler still in place? My car currently has a Sharkwerks rear/centre muffler bypass pipe in place. I'm wondering if the Fister mod might be too loud if combined with a centre/rear muffler bypass?

I now have an appointment on Tuesday morning at Centerline Motorsports. Rene there was very accommodating, and seemed to understand exactly what I was talking about. Thanks for the other recommendations, I will file them away for another day.
I struck out at JPG Exhaust. They were friendly and tried to be helpful and suggested that I come down for them to have a look, since they did seem to want to try to understand it on the phone. I went down there and they put it up on a hoist right away. Then they found that the issue was not right at the bottom of the car (which I knew full well and did explain on the phone that I thought the muffler needed to come out onto a bench for the repair) and then said that "we are not mechanics" and that they were not able to do this work since it involved disassembly. Oh well. In any case, it looks like I'm all set for Tuesday at Centerline.

Sounds like they just didn't WANT to do it.

I have the standard center in place, cannot comment on the difference but assume it would be louder. Too loud? Depends on who is listening. Don't forget about the new noise bylaws in the GTA
