Two words - class action.

Seriously. IMS affected max 10% of cars? It seems 30-50% of M96/M97 engines have some level of bore scoring.

Bore scoring is the new IMS.

These cars are getting old now, I can see this number going up steadily over time.

wow that guy is really full of himself isnt he ..
I think he is 80% wrong too ..

If you put each cylinder at BDC you will see the bore scoring through the traditional method. I really doubt if you put each cylinder at BDC and checked and saw zero bore scoring you would feel any symptoms with the car..
I agree in principle with what he is saying and you might catch that extra few where it is just starting , but i really doubt you would get knocking and other symptoms he mentions if you put every piston at BDC and scoped the traditional way.

But yeah between IMS issues, Bore scoring and lights burning, the 996 definitely has the same reputation of the old air cooled 2.7 as the bastard Child.

But to be fair bore scoring is prevalent in other Porsches as well as other manufacturers, the 996 just didn't need this on top of its other issues.

I agree. Im mot sure why he thinks his method is so great and how he is better than guys who work on these every day.

Rob is that what they refer to as " D chunking" ? i have heard the term before and imagined it would be a chunk of your cylinder wall breaking away in the shape of a D like that one.
