Wow, provincial government actually doing something useful for once...

well lets face it . The system collapsed anyway when they put their faith in the integrity of the car companies to put a light on, on the dash if the car was failing its emissions obligations .. and not independently check the emissions..
..look what came of that misplaced trust.....

I think Doug Ford is a complete moron, but on this I think he hit the nail on the head. Scrap an ineffective system for private cars (the vast majority of which are very clean - you can't commit suicide with the old garage-door-closed-with-the-engine-running trick anymore) and get tougher on industrial/commercial polluters. Win-win.

Honestly, I did not think I will live the day in this province to see this non-sense cancelled. I am glad it was, and happy common sense is again noticeable in provincial politics if not at the federal level. But this should not be a forum where we argue on anything but Porsche cars so I will stop here. I am born in February so unfortunately I will have to at least get through the pain one more time before the $%%#$@# law lapses on April 1st

Yeah I agree on both fronts. About Dougie and about drive clean. The cars that might be offenders, old classics with carbs, are exempt anyway! Going after the commercial vehicles makes more sense.

So , my move to Muskoka was premature. This is great news. Now the monster 968 can be legitimate in Ontario. Money in the bank.

Yeah, that was my 72 I did feel bad about it, and tried to keep the carbs as tuned as possible. But spend an afternoon tuning carbs and you may as well drive across the country in a modern car, for all the exhaust that came out. I'd have to wash my hair 3 times to get the exhaust smell out!

It was always a BS program anyway. Just a tax grab.
If it was really meant to "save the environment", then all cars everywhere in the province would have to go though the program all the time. Not just city vehicles.
Now if they'd only lower the sticker renew fees that were raised to offset the now "free" emission tests.

What a shame to see such a great program being out on the scrap heap. Look how well it’s worked to prevent those pollluting Volkswagens. Where would we be without it?
