Hey. that is not a frost free valve? Why not put a frost free valve there. And where is the hot water? Nothing nicer that washing your car and your hands are not falling off.

To be honest BIG smoke I've though of using those frost free valves for the exterior hose bibs around the house but I never seem to need to turn on the water during the winter months. One of the first things I did when I moved into the house was to replace the all the shut off valves in the basement with ball valves c/w drain port, I just shut the water off inside open the valve outside and leave it open and blow air though it. So far no issues. Those frost free valves are so long I find and i'm not a fan of the screw type valve.. ball valves only for me 1/4 turn on/off. I've thought of putting in a small sink just for washing hands... i'm torn on doing it or not, but i'm tight for space and if I keep adding scope to the work I may not finish lol!

Onami, 911boy thanks for the kind words

I'm hoping to start putting up the paneling this weekend... but now BIG smoke has me thinking about putting in a small sink... :S

Hi Jason
Your garage looks fantastic. I did the same type of thing with mine and love it. It is not easy to set things up in a garage the size you and I have. In the end it's just like the rest of the house.
I can still get two small cars in the garage when it snows but only just.

Thanks! I agree with you BWH, I had to go through a lot of planning and layout ideas to make what I wanted in there work. With these standard “2 car” garages (more like 1.5 car) you really have to play around with placement of things.. theirs always a weird protrusion where you don’t want it etc. I’m even changing some of my ideas on the fly as I run into stuff I initially didn’t account for or see.

Btw, your garage looks great!

Just checking in to give some progress updates. Finally picked up my space heater from my parents place, garage gets a bit cold now... need some heat!

So,all the new insulation is in, completed the home wrap, and just starting the T&G paneling. So far so good, a couple of challenges here and there with some warped wall studs but all in all stuffs going smoothly. Kinda liking the natural wood look, might keep that instead of doing the white wash look... anyone have any thoughts if I should paint?

Here are some progress pics:

The natural wood look does look good! Some exterior paint would give it some moisture/liquid absorption protection. Or you could seal the wood.

Why are cars constantly getting bigger while garages are constantly getting smaller?

@SToronto , I agree. the natural look has really grown on me.. i just need to find a finish that will not yellow the wood. i have some flat varnish i'm going to test out on a scrap piece and some exterior semi transparent stain that could possibly retain the look.

@911 Rod i have swisstrax diamond tracks sitting in my basement waiting to be installed. i kept it a pretty neutral color scheme, silver, grey and black 15.75 x 15.75 tile with a basic floor design, i think back in this thread somewhere i uploaded the design.

@wc11 that's why i don't buy newer cars lol. that and the newer cars are harder to work on with all these computer thingamajiggies.

i'm hoping to have more updates next week. this weekend will be a busy one.

My cottage has a lot of Pine finishing.
I like pine, but dislike it when it yellows.
I white washed stained everything. It kept it from yellowing, sealed it.
I can bump it, and it dents, but does not chip.
15 years old now, still looks great.
And if I get tired of it, I can paint it. No big deal.
It was a BEHR product.... Pickling stain? I can't find it now on the BEHR site.
Paint on, rub almost off.
One beer/400 square feet job.

got a picture to share? I would love to see how the whitewash looks like.

For me the whole hole point of using the spruce T&G is so that if I bump it it can handle it and age gracefully. Whereas with drywall it will eventually look worn down.
