369 KM/h om the straight...another record hits the dust, Overall must be the fastest track car ever built.

Given the technology of the time the previous record from Stefan Belloff in the 956 was even more impressive. It was just a qualifying lap and not a record attempt. - one of the great all time laps.

I agree. I was having this discussion with a friend last night. Yes the 919 lap was insane but the fact it was only 51s faster then the 956 (in race trim) 30+ years later over 20km/154 turns. Just goes to show you how absurd the 956 was

BMW Sauber did a demo run and simulated a low 5 min run. However the ring is very bumpy in some areas and because the track is so large no two laps are similar , I don't think it would be any faster than the 919

Just for clarity this car holds the lap record for Spa F1 track and beat Lewis Hamilton’s record by over a second. It’s actually faster than an F1 car at least over a lap

Thanks Ronan. I am sure the 919 is the fastest track car in the world. I just don't understand why the old recored stood for 35 years. There are many cars that could have squashed the old record {not the 919 record}. Why didn't Ferrari bring their F1 car years ago to beat it? etc.etc.Also, Porsche was VERY clear that the 919 had restrictions for racing that were lifted for this record. I'd like to see Lewis Hamilton's car try it with all the F1 restrictions lifted as well.

If they could build an F1 car without restrictions they would build the 919 Tribute car.
