OT HD TV antennas
im not a fan of OT subjects, but what the hell, it can be deleted if there is objection
I have a friend who is living in a basement apt who cant really afford the extortion money Bell and Rogers are charging. But he has a 37 inch TV and uses the owners cable and Netflix.
I was thinking of getting him a HD antenna or something so he can at least get a few channels for news sports etc.
May not be feasible as owner wont let us put antenna outside. Is there anything that just sits close to the TV that we can plug into HDMI or something that will give a couple of channels ?
I figure there might be people on here with kids in college or university that have run into this.
PS he is in downtown TO so I think would not need any type of booster
Thanks

I bought a $30 cheap o antenna off of Amazon a few years back. It basically looks like a sheet of paper. Provided he has a window that he can put it on, or a little balcony near his TV, so it can be outside, it'll get a bunch of channels.
The higher up you are, and the less obstructed your view, the better it will be. If he can see the CN Tower, it'll get 20+ channels and some American feeds.

Clive, you are more than welcome to borrow it to see if it works at your buddy's place.

In a basement apartment, you should be able to get CBC, CITYTV, CTV and maybe Global.
I've heard good things about the Monoprice ones.

does he have a basement window he can put the antenna to? i paid 80$ cad for one, it sits in a storage bedroom beside the window and I re-routed the basement cabling so that it feeds 4 other tvs. i get about 35 channels and am up in richmond hill.
you do have to play around with the location and ideally you need to point it south (so it faces city tv + niagara/buffalo) to get the most channels.
being able to get the usa channels is ideal as if you can receive one of them, you can receive the .2, .3, .4 channels that same net work station provides.
