Default Anyone have Focus RS as their winter beater?

Hey Guys,

Looks like my daily winter is sold and now on the hunt for the next winter beater/daily driver.

My potential candidates are

-Ford Focus RS
-VW Golf R
-Subaru WRX (not likely)

I am leaning heavily towards the Focus RS now that the hype has gone down and price remains steady.

Any of you have the focus RS, please provide your opinion in terms of reliability? I know it's a quick little car and fun on track but having never owned a ford, i am questioning its reliability. also heard about ppl getting new motor on a brand new car due to coolant leaking or oil burning issue.

On the other hand, Golf R - fits the bill nicely but down on power, down on AWD system compare to RS, also looks somewhat boring golf. However, a whole lot nicer interior, better ride quality from what I heard and overall comfy car.

What would you guys pick?

Porsche of London happen to have a very nice grey FOCUS RS for sale. Full frontal 3m wrap and looks like the owner took good care of it until traded in for a porsche. If you were the owner, please chime in!

I think Jamie has an R for sale. I drove an R and really liked it...had and S3 which we just sold which was deluxe as well. Never driven an RS but I would certainly opt for AWD though if given the choice. These small cars with four snows will bring you anywhere!

Yup, the R is a great choice.

Were I keeping mine, I'd likely add short shift and tune it for a bit more performance.

Why not consider the Honda type R in your list?

i actually did but it falls short on many things. Fundamentally it is fwd with a lot less power. And i cant get over the looks. This is a souped up rice cooker from the back. If i was in my late teens yes but not anymore.

Besides, when i talked to honda dealer just to see if i can get a test drive, dealer lol'd me and told me the waitlist is 2 yrs. lol

Get the R. JB4 or Cobb takes care of the power issue. You also don't scream boy racer. We will prob be getting one in spring when wifey current lease is up.

As for myself, have a nice is250 winter beater

actually brand new one is 60 now before tax lol.

It is made in germany and it does destroy other competitors(arguably) with exception of RS3.

Was actually looking at it, but it's black. I stay away from black as it is next to impossible to avoid swirl marks showing.. I know it is good price with very low miles....

Winter beater? None of your options are really a beater. All excellent choices.
http://www.leasebusters.com/en/details.asp?ID=240191 would be my choice.
$5oo/month for 24 months?

I am bias...

$40k doesn't exactly fit my definition of beater either

I went leasebusters but got the cheapest/ugliest one I could find. Kia Soul $299/month and back to them in May
