hahah ya be careful. I was not worried one big, with the care just off the ground there was barely any deflection. They are designed to move with the car on it anyways. I don't think I would lift it way up and move it however.

Be careful, it's not just an issue of it rolling away. If you move the lift with a car on it the full weight of the car and the lift will be concentrated on 4 very small contact points of the casters. I would not trust the concrete pad in my garage for that type of concentrated load.

I did the same. I have a lot of rebar in my garage floor.

For those of you who installed a lift in your garages, what is the general cost for the entire project?

It depends on what lift you go for, what upgrades you get with the lift, if you install yourself or hire someone, if you need to modify your garage door and get a new opener, if you need to modify your ceiling, etc.

On the low end you would be looking at $3500, and on the higher end you can easily be upwards of 10k

All of this is assuming that your concrete pad can support the lift with a car on it.

Thanks, gents. I'm in the market for a detached home, and looking to see what I would need to get a rough idea of costs to install a lift, or a combination of having to rebuild a garage from the ground up (depending on what I end up with.)

Depending on the area, double car garages are rare in the city of Toronto but also not uncommon. Mississauga and surrounding cities are more likely to have them, and if I am damned with a single car garage, I want to explore the option of installing a lift for a variety of purposes.

I paid $4100+tax for a BendPak HD-9 with wheel kit and drip trays + install and delivery. This was 2 years ago. I had to modify my garage trusses, install a high lift door kit and new opener. I also had my pad scanned because it was built in 1985, so wanted to ensure I'm good.

My Bendpak in floor scissor lift was around $6500 by the time the dust settled...and that was doing the installation myself (yes, jack hammered out a chunk of the slab and re-poured).

Did you go thru babco?
I think I can get away without doing structural change to the roof. But it would be 2 low cars that fit.
The problem that I have is the first 4' from the garage door is only 8'6" tall. After that is taller than I need. But because it is not an extended length garage, I can't move the lift further in.
Did you get a structural engineer to look into that? Or just a general contractor? Just wondering how you went about it.
Mind if you post some pics?
Thanks

Yeah they are the only Bendpak official distributor for Canada. Dealt with Bruce for the most part.
