Don't forget -
us Aussies can use this as a place to share our bad experiences with -
Like with big tyre companies -
Did I mention that I replaced my continental tyres off my 911 after 7 days -
Pretty much gave them away on eBay -
- sorry -
Couldn't help it -

Just moved here from the states. I've got a 997.2 RS sitting in storage in California.
I was extremely saddened to find out I cannot import my LHD RS to Australia.
Does anyone know of a way to bring in the car legally? Can I register in another state which might allow registration for a less than 30 yr old LHD vehicle.
I thought about selling and buying a RHD in Australia, but I've found only one and they are asking $450k AUD!!!
I'm in Brisbane for the time being and do love it here already. Great people and great country!
Thanks!

Most states is Australia require the car to be 30 years old to be able to register it LHD, Western Australia is one exception that will allow a 15 year old car, but I do not know of any that would allow a LHD car as new as a 997......
This could be your only option, there is a rule to allow tourists to bring their cars over whilst on holidays, may not work if you have moved here to live? https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/reg...register/left/
Welcome to Australia, where we pay way too much for cars.....

Thank you ANF.
Unfortunately the tourist option only allows LHD vehicles over 4.5 tons.
I was told I can bring it in as a rally/race vehicle and play around on track days. I can even obtain a permit to drive to and from events. Which would not be so bad since I do not plan to drive the car as daily. I only drove her 800 miles in 3.5 years

Are you sure? That is not how I read it. I read it as you need to apply for a LHD permit only if your vehicle is over 4.5t. Meaning that under 4.5t no LHD permit is needed, unless of course you have checked with the relevant authorities.... in that case it would be very odd to bring a vehicle over 4.5t to aus as a holiday vehicle....??
Yes you could possibly do the rally/ race method.

The conversion cost is over 100k AUD (read holy ****). If I got 200k USD for the RS its a wash, but the conversion would destroy the value of the car anyway so it's best to leave it as is.
Either way it's a first world problem isnt it . It won't hurt to wait and see what happens with the values. I thought the asking prices in the states were bad...

I'm not sure how I can do the tourist thing considering I'm already in the country as a permanent resident. I don't have a valid address as of yet since we're just staying in Air BnB's and serviced apartments until we figure out where to reside. I'll do some research and see what I can do.
At the very least the rally route would work. I would just have to obtain a permit every time I decide to take my "rally car" to the repair shop along the great ocean road haha.
BTW the speed camera's every 20 feet are annoying, but the roads are nice especially along the coast. It's also nice to be on the beach without heaps of people and no parking. I don't miss California.
Thank you for the info!!
