The Cali Kid can still wheel. Everyone was struggling with tire degradation and lack of rubber on the track so nice to see the results for the home team. Really happy they ran the GTLM cars this year. Think that made the event and a number of teams commented about the strong fan turnout.

The real old guy Jorg didn't too poorly either. As an aside, I asked him if he'd left anything on the table with his Bilster Berg lap record in the GT3 RS and he just chuckled and said, "well, I wasn't wearing a helmet so maybe a bit...." He was also adamant that the car was straight off the production line and they didn't even check tire pressures before he went out.

Fast forward to 1:20 if you haven't seen it:

Also great to meet PJ Jones. Can't imagine what a 43sec LRP feels like....

They had a short interview with Long post race. Didn't sound as though he likes being referred to as old.

RSR's won the sound competition hands-down. GT3R close second....

The photo you see in my Avatar of my son and wife was taken at that record setting race on Memorial Day in 1993. It was spectacular, a mix of rain and dry. Juan Manuel Fangio (PJ's teammate ) and PJ were going at it tooth and nail even to the point of being dangerous.

PJ was autographing everything, Fangio refused to autograph anything or meet with the race sponsors (which I was part of).

Great memories.

Regards,

.

Cool story. A lot of history at Lime Rock. I sure hope it survives.

Love watching Jorg driving that RS like he stole it. Not to bad for an "Old Guy".

Great race glad I was there both days. Anyone see the hot lap Corvette wreck on the uphill because they failed to tell them the barriers had been put out? ...or maybe they were put out prematurely. I had just walked away and hear the crash. Turned around to see a Vette limping along and lots of debris.

Not sure if I saw that. I did see a GTLM Corvette tangle with a Ford at the entrance to the uphill. Sounds like you might be talking about a different accident?

Yes this was at the end of the Hot Laps about 30 minutes before the start of the race. I think they thought hot laps were all done so they moved the barriers in place. Apparently the first guy made it through somehow but not the second.

Saw the aftermath - double airbag deployment, significant front end damage. This after the Porsche guys gave us a stern warning before we went out not to screw up hot laps for everyone else....

Jeez, that's ridiculous to have an accident like that. I hope they were OK.
