I row the gears up and down.

The exception is in a heated battle and under heavy braking during a pass, 4 to 2 has happened. Clean lap always smooth and row.

+1

Rowing through the gears is a big part of the fun/feeling to me.

comparatively, engine torque is meaningless without RPM attached to it.
HP IS the car's capacity to accelerate at any speed, anywhere on the track.

in other words, low torque and high torque can both produce the same rear wheel torque. (AKA the force that will accelerate you)

skip can cause more wear on synchros.

assuming we are talking about engine HP and torque, HP is MUCH more important, becuase t contains more information. unless the discussion is around forces on driveline components leading up to the transmission, or about rear wheel forces with all known gear ration components and factors, HP is more important...... or useful. But it really depends on what you are looking at. assuming we are using the value to compare cars.. HP is more important.

If i said, i will allow you to race a car with a max torque level or a HP level of your choosing, what would you think was a more "important " factor"?

when put in those terms, anyone that "gets it" would make the correct choice.

winders, Torque at the wheels would equal any value of importance of HP. in fact, if i gave you some real big tires to run...it might be a less important factor.
what you mean is "Force at the tires".

More fun to go through gears for me too. But, I will say, in the spec miata class with most guys I see them skipping gears when downshifting. I seem to go through less transmissions. Not sure how related that is, but makes me think.
