Default Wanted: Track Guide for CoTA

Looking for some help here from my fellow Rennlisters...

I know within the last year I've come across a link to a web site that had some track guides. I seem to recall VIR specifically, and I want to say they had a few other tracks guides as well. I think these were written by a pro driver. I've spent ages now searching for a track guide to CoTA, and even VIR, but came up empty.

I'm scheduled to go to CoTA the first week of March and I'd like to make the most of it, having never been there. I would sincerely appreciate some tips, links to in-car videos, and most of all, a professional track guide.

What's a quick time for a well set-up GT4 there?

This might help a little bit. The line is in very faint grey. Used this the first time I went to COTA. Had it blown up hanging from a garage wall. Was used by many.

PM me your email address and i'll send a long some info. I live in TX and drive it regularly and have pulled together info through the years.

My slow BMW race car does it in 2:35 so you should be in easily 10-20 seconds faster if on DOT comps of some sort.

Here's my quick start guide for several racing schools I've led down there.

My private coaching client guide is 85 slides long. Sorry, can't post that!

I've uploaded a professional "quickstart" guide to COTA in the previous post.

I have guides that offer several levels of detail, from single-page, corner-by-corner explanations on public websites to basic illustrated topography guides (what I uploaded on this thread), to 15-30+ page booklets of photographs, sample target data and explanations for what the car will do, before it does it.

The latter are reserved for private clients and some is shared in this new offering from Ross Bentley and I here: https://speedsecrets.com/virtual-track-walks/ COTA will be released later this spring with the next batch of North American tracks.

Without knowing more about you or the state of your GT4, it's not possible to predict your potential performance window, but I would feel good in the high 2:20's, perhaps the 2:27.5-2:29.0 range. As the track ages, it's slowed a little, too. Focus on best execution of fundamental skills and let the time come to you...

To the OP: I will be doing the track walk for that event starting at 5 PM on the Thursday afternoon. Like Peter, i also provide a very detailed track guide to clients that I am not inclined to post here. But join the track walk--it have been very useful for everyone the last couple of years.

^^This^^

A good track walk can convey everything you need to know to FULLY COMMIT and not spend a lengthy time equivocating. THAT is how you go quicker...

Given that SnB is far better than the average track day driver, even including his time in the mix indicates a 2:30 mean. So anything under that is a good time to shoot for. If you were shooting for times...

That said, a good driver in a GT4CS would smoke that. It's all relative. Focus on doing each execution as well as you can...

Thanks everyone. This is awesome. And if anyone can think of a web site with turn-by-turn instructions for CoTA, icing on the cake!

Regarding lap times, I'm just a hack. I merely want to see how much of a hack.

VR did an outstanding job with last years track walk. I hope to be there for it again.

Great track notes, so from a novice.

1. If you early apex and get off racing line or off racing line for other reasons, track falls away in almost every corner, so very tricky and challenging offline. T4, 10, 19, 20 etc eats cars for lunch
2. Lots of barriers, but if you know your outs and steer out when in trouble vs trying to make/force it and spin, lots of space to bring car under control
3. Do the track walk Thursday.
4. This is a F1 track , very technical.

http://www.everythingelseisjustwaiting.com/circuit-americas-track-guide/

this one is not bad.

these are a few reasonably decent laps from pca 2015. I'm by no means perfect but i think the line is fairly ok
