Wow, no kidding. If these relatively unrepairable newer tubs become unavailable, what's going to happen to the desirability and value of this whole field of cars a few years from now? They won't be current enough to be competitive for the racers, and they won't appeal to the club folks because they'll be too fragile to risk. Doesn't bode well for the hobbyist who wants a previous generation race car for "fun." Better to stick with cars that are more durable and repairable.
This is the way of the future in term of aluminum race cars.
The 996 and 997 Cups are easier to repair. However their tubs have also run scarce.

new 991 Cup has reinforced subframe to address one of the key vulnerabilities. hopefully that cuts down on the number of retubs. also, older steel tubs time-out, although many in club racing tend to ignore and just wait for stuff to break.

Or do you think all the really old vintage steel tub race cars need to be retubbed?

It's not just the aluminum cars now... probably to help with the billions owed due to dieselgate, all Porsche race items are getting ridiculously priced. Price a GT3 cup engine rebuild lately? Or other race parts? They are going to rape us till nobody is left. I may go back to racing my old car, or get another older car, as I'm not going to pay that much to race a newer car, there are so many other better ways to spend my money.

I was eating at houston restaurant in pompano last week with a friend of mine that race 997 cup car in PCA with us.
He gave me his phone with an email from PNMA showing the cost of the new 991 cup, something like 250-300k cad. He said, he would like to race in imsa!
I said to him, i will be your windshield washer guy loll
Crazy price!!!

The GT4 can be clipped however.
Not sure the rhyme or reason however from one to the other?

Heard from a PMNA friend that three new GT4 tubs were ordered after the ROAR - looks like tubs are selling like hot cakes ;(

With the introduction of the MR version (which was not originallly planned, but a result of demand), the cars widespread acceptance in GT4 spec racing and the fact that far more are being campaigned this year than last, Porsche (and specifically PMNA here) are no longer constraining the number of tubs manufactured. Like Frank said, three were ordered in January by US teams after the test but before the Daytona race.
Have you seen how many cars were entered in this past weekend's Round 1 of the VLN?!?!
