Default Audi out of LMP1!!

It seems as if VAG board is going to concentrate most motorsport money on Porsche and with the cut of over 200 million Euros will help. Seems diesel will not ever return to the US. Audi is waiting for hydrogen LMP!!!!

Sad news but not surprising given the current climate at VAG

That's too bad, but what a tremendous program it's been. Introduced tech, won everything, gave us the current playbook for LMP1 cars for Porsche and others to beat. End of an era in LeMans.

Could they combine the best-of-the-best braintrust and benfit Porsche in LMP1?

Writing seemed to be on the wall when Gade went to Bentley in April, so not surprised at all.

Given that the long rumored , now acknowledged deal that put Audi into LMP with no Porsche competition in exchange for the Cayenne deal I think something had to give . Dieselgate and having two house brands competing with each other doesn't make a lot of sense either - especially in light of the budgets involved to run these programs .

Makes total sense to me from a marketing standpoint...make Porsche the racing brand and Audi can stick with it's sedan crowd.

Plus Audi I'm sure can still race in other series and classes to keep the motorsports look.

Wow - sorry to hear this! With the news that Mark Webber is retiring, wonder if Porsche will pursue Andre Lotterer as a replacement?

I propose a Rennlister that tracks a lot as a replacement(trackcar,orthojoe,mooty,macca...sorry to those I'm forgetting )
That way we'll have a level 1 cleaning lady inside PAG.

Yup. Audi seems to be moving their product line away from the sporting side of things to the luxury sedan/coupe realm anyway. Makes sense to let Porsche carry the racing mantle.
