As a base 987.2 guy myself I would say R7 all day long. Run them at 33-34 PSI at 200 degrees. They work great and cost less than slicks which are more temperamental as folks have mentioned. Put one easy heat cycle on them and let them sit for a day (or have Tire Rack cycle them). They're fast enough and even when they get less fast they are progressive.

I run the 245/35/18 and 275/25/18 rear no problemo.

Excellent information. Thank you!

Are you using stock width and offset wheels?

Another vote here for the R7.
I run Pirelli DH take-offs on my 997 GT3 and have tried Hoosier R6 as well, but not R7.

I prefer Pirelli take offs to Hoosiers, and have been using them since R6s were out. Take offs are inconsistent in my experience, but at 1/2 the price of Hoosiers, they are worth it, IMHO. I have a high spring rate and no rubber in my suspension in my 6GT3, so it is not apples to apples. I think the Hoosiers are easier to drive because they slide more and the transition is more linear, but I've gotten more heat cycles, on average, with the takeoffs. Also, I like the stick of the Pirelli HD. I am a second or 2 faster with Pirellis at Mid Ohio.

Interesting. I'm only on my second set of R7s. I love them and of course have been asking everyone I can about tire pressures. Getting really consistent answers in the 36-37 lb range, hot. That matches the manufacturer recommendations of 36-40 for a 2600-3000 lb car. I've been running in the 36-37 range but have been curious about lower pressures, since I'm used to running in the 32-33lb range on previous tires (Re71r, cup2, ad08, etc).

How did you settle on 33-34? How does that compare for you to slightly higher pressures?
