That is a bizarre story! Can you imagine if it is sealed behind the wall of some building?

Last summer, I was driving a silver Cayman back from a race at Laguna Seca on CA 47. I just passed a long string of cars and trucks, doing well over 100 mph, when I saw a sign that said, "James Dean killed on this spot Sept 30 (tomorrow, by the way) 1955 in his silver Porsche."

That was a bit creepy..... I slowed down...

Hope they find his car...

I once was having dinner with a Mexican gentleman and we got to talking about cars and how he once owned one of the very first Porsches called Carrera and sold it to a Hollywood Moviestar, it was James.

Today at 6:45 PM PST is the 60th Anniversary of the crash, what a coincidence that rumors of the wrecks whereabouts should surface in the same week

You should talk to Lee Raskin about that...

Doesn't seem possible that its the same car. The display model has a mildly crumpled left door which looks like it was shredded along with much of the middle of the chassis on both sides in the accident photo.

Could it be that the had another 550 or lookalike built / wrecked so that the real 550 was stored away, or after all the weird things that happened to it and owners, they just wanted it to be forgotten behind a wall?

too bad Barris never talked about it or revealed it in his will or estate...wait, if he just died, maybe there will be something coming.

Hmmm....

I guess it's possible they straightened it out a touch to display it if it's the same car. Doo, hood, cowling, and wheels are all different. Hard to imagine wrecking another spyder just to display it as his wreck...
