There is LFB for a rally racing event and there is LFB for a track racing event.
Different amounts/duration of LFB..... VR I agree with your assessment
Seems like the 996 GT3 is the favorite.
How durable is its motor?

The 6 GT3 motor is passed down from the GT1 Metzger engine. True dry sump etc. etc. If you do a search in the GT3 forums, you'll read that these engines are nearly bullet proof. LSD from factory is weak, but most have been upgraded by now. Some of these cars have higher mileage than others with most being track with zero issues. coolant pipes should be welded instead of the factory glue or at least pinned back. The GT3 forums will be more detailed.

The description that seems to come up all the time is "raw" for this car.

6GT3. I have 997 and 996 GT3's. The 997 is definitely faster. The 996 makes you feel like a hero when you get it right. Plus it is a wonderful platform to develop further and make go faster. My 6GT3 will go around WGI in 2 minutes flat on Hoosiers. That faster than most 997 GT3 's I find.

Durability? I used to say the where indestructible. At my last event at WGI (short course) coming out of 11 at around 6000 rpm it shut off. Motor doesn't turn and the filter has aluminum in it. Looks like it's getting a 4.0 now. No idea what happened and won't for some months. Having said all that, I am still a big believer in the motor. Nothing beats a Mezger at 8000rpm

Sorry to hear, Please report what you find.

I would selfishly say 996 is most rewarding / involving but it's all I know other than a lot of rides in the passenger seat of the others while instructing... So I'm not sure my opinion has merit.

Can't go wrong with a 996 GT3, but hurry up, I think that prices might be going up.
