It only took him 14.2 sec to get from s/f to facing perpendicular to the recommended line... track record?

ROFL! Yeah, I told my client yesterday that. too! I caught the initial spin but as we crested that dramatic crest there, it rotated the other way. Pure driver error.

Yep you're right. Beginning of first hot lap after warm up. Had gotten from gear 6 to 5 when the spin began, and as the car spun the shifter (paddle) stopped shifting. Would not keep going down. So with the super low revs in 5th gear before I got the clutch in, the engine stalled. No flat spots on the tires, however!

I was MORTIFIED. However, my client thought it was hilarious. He pulled this screen grab later because he thought it was the best picture ever.

It is a nice view of the corner.... I do love the Chin events for the variety and rarity of the machines that show up. Great weekend and no rain or ice;-)

Not a view you see every day...
Should have just given the 11 a point by .

That picture made the spin "worth it".

Wasn't that a Lola F3000 with a Judd V10 painted to look like a Ferrari.

Dunno. Owner claims it is a 2002 Ferrari F1.

Actually, I think you're thinking of Michel Gensini's Dallara B191 BMS-Scuderia Italia-Judd, run by Lucchini in F1 back in the day (early 1990's).

He's usually at Chin and DMTD events and was at NJMP this weekend. The car at COTA is a former Corse Clienti F1 car...

Gensini's car started life and has always been an F1 car. Not a converted F3000 car. Those cars are dimensionally smaller. Like a T-97/20 Indy Lights car.

That M23-Cosworth is a real piece of history. Sorry I couldn't make it down to help Greg prep for the HGP race later this month. Really cool guy and really cool cars...

Yep. Formula Ford National Champion 1973, Macau GP champ 1981 (in an Atlantic car and the only American ever to win that prestigious event), IMSA star (1987 Rolex 24 winner, 1990 Sebring winner in the Nissan GTP car), Bob Earl.

Super nice guy and a pro coach since 1994. He started the Derek Daly School for Daly in 1996. Plus, he has HGP experience. They were using a VBOX.

Not to split hairs, but the car VR posted has the livery and aero package of the 2007 Ferrari. If the owner says it's a 2002 then it's a V10 engine because the V8s weren't yet produced and the engine wail of the V10 is even more glorious than the V8! I can see why VR might have had to call his doctor if it lasted more than 4 hours. I can't imagine tthe sound of that thing screaming past you on track.

He was very nice, and very knowledgeable. It was a delight to share lunch with him yesterday.

I didn't look closely enough to see if it was a v10, but it sounded like one. Here is a bad cell phone pic that shows some of the engine:

An event that allows open and closed wheel cars on track at the same time?
