Default Summit point open track - registration is odd

I was looking at the Summit point calendar and noticed some pre scca open track days, welcome to SCCA/NASA/PCA types..

it says it requires

Current competition license.
Full driver and vehicle safety gear must be utilized as per sanctioning body requirements.
Current vehicle log book.

register the day of the event only.

how exactly does that work if you aren't doing the next day?
Has anyone done this? advice?
is it just show up and go once your credentials are vetted?
is it a well attended (crowded) event?

I would hate to pull down there for 4 hours to get turned away at the gate due to misinterpretation , I would prefer to get something from the registrar.

I live close to Summit and have done this event a few times. It's designed for SCCA racers to practice the day before their event but anyone who is a licensed racer can do it. Just show your racing license at the gate and then at the registrars table. Pay your money and get your wristband and sticker. You are then assigned a run group based on whether you are big bore or small more. You get about 4 1/2 hour sessions or so. It's not a DE so you need a full blown race car and racing suit to run. It's very well attended a ton of the SCCA guys do use it as their practice day.
