Default Non-slip surface for driver's side floor?

I just recarpeted my 911 with a RS kit, but since the car is dedicated to the track, I 'd like an alternative to floor mats for the front of the car. Ideally it would be some sort of paint or stick on non-slip surface I would put down on the floor instead of using carpet. Something black would be preferred to match the carpet in the rear.

Any ideas?

Yeah, the pick-up bedliner stuff. I'd think it'd also be good for the underside of fiberglass fenders, to prevent the paint from starring.

The bedliner stuff will add more weight than I wanted. One person estimated it adds 18 pounds if the whole floor is done, so I assume it would be 10-12 pounds for just the front.

I think a stick on product with a sandpaper surface on one side and adhesive on the other would work well (like the top of a skate board), but I can't find it in a size any larger than 4" wide. I need to find big sheets of the stuff.

My racecar has a flat AL sheet metal floor (Pop riveted atop the stock floor) which makes a nice smooth snag free surface. For nonskid it has some industrial floor strip stuff in a ~9x16" rectangle under the pedals. This works really well in terms of being nonskid, but is grinding down the heel of my throttle foot driving shoe so badly I will have to patch it or it will go through.

For more options than you can shake a stick at, go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and type "non skid" into the search box.

Porsche factory racecars use unfinished plywood.

Lift the driver's carpet on any 911 and you'll find that same piece of wood..........

Grip tape for skateboards works well.
