Trailer hitch lock - the illusion of security

boat trailers (open fish's with big OB engines) are the main target in So Fla.
a battery operated circular saw with a metal wheel, and a wet sponge will go though almost anything, & almost silently.
plus there are no titles for trailers. take one to any weight station, then go register it.
I try to back my rig up to a wall so they would have to take the truck and trailer. and I pray.. that's about all you can do.
2nd after boats are landscaping trailers. -easy to resell that equipment...

The point of locking up a trailer is to deter thieves into looking for an easier target. The more locks you have, the less likely they are to mess with it. I use a ball lock, latch lock for the tongue, and a parking boot on my featherlite open, but if someone still wants it, they will get it. With cordless sawzalls and drills, anyone can cut through a lock on a trailer within minutes. If they have to cut through 2-3, then they are likely to leave it alone. Storing stuff in an enclosed trailer is just asking for your stuff to be taken, not much you can do there to secure the doors. Best off keeping it empty with the doors unlocked.
My trailer is pretty safe in my driveway but every once in a while there is a petty theft and I would prefer to avoid that. I also have security cameras that is less of a concern. There are also a bunch of signs saying that I have a gun and will use it. Yup - I'm that guy.
I'm more concerned about when I am on the road and have my cars and tools in the trailer. I would like there to be a deterrent factor.
That video that shows all the hitch locks being smashed and pulled apart in sobering.

Im purchasing a tracker. I had someone try to steal my open aluminum trailer from Barber some years back. Came out and could see where they started sawing through the ball lock. Don't know why they didn't finish but theft deterred in this case.
