Who is the Spec 944 Mojo here?
Hello Braintrust.
After DEing a 911 for 3 years and learning the track ropes, I am
looking at " spec classes" ( have ruled out SM, and SPBoxter ... or as that guy on here calls them; Skirtsters!).
So Spec 944 looks interesting
So who are the RL 944 chiefs in the Northeast, Mid Atl, Fla. ? Is there a SPec 944 class in PCA racing ? I see in NASA they have strong class and showing, but its mostly midwest and Ca. maybe i am wrong.
Thanks
just point me in right direct for someone to bug. I searched but did not find much.
Cheers
Frank

Here is what the 2014 schedule looked like and the 944 Cup Nationals field a week ago at Monticello. We did all our races this year with PCA.

I'm no expert on 944's but Brian Weathered at Midwest Eurosport is building some great 944 SP3's. Denny Hiffman and Tom Collins' cars are pretty special.

As stated earlier, SP2 is the biggest class. A little more expensive, but you can find turn key cars all day long. I have two SP3 cars, if I could do it over, again, I'd go the SP2 route.

Brian is the 944 Cup Midwest Chapter director. He knows his front engine Porsches, especially those SP3 cars. Good source of info.

this is fantastic you guys.. thanks very much..cup daddy i will be in touch for sure. At most races do Sp1 2 and 3 classes start and run together on track,? Even though there must be scoring (and podiums) for each class, correct?
Phil its great to hear the the jump from 911 DE to Spec944 can be done and is not too onerous. (I have a vintage HSR/SVRA/SCCA wtw competition license ..which actually entailed unlearning some bad DE habits. )
The Spec 944 classes really seem to be a good happy medium between close competition, expense, speed and durability. without the spec miata curse..
thanks again hoping not to bug you guys too much

PCA scores each of these classes separately. 944 Cup combines SP1 and 2 for scoring, and scores sp3 separately.

Frank,
Just for the record ... my 1983 2.5 L 944 SP2 car is quicker around the track at Circuit Mont Tremblant than my 89 911 with a 95 3.6 and 996TT brakes !
Don't worry about those nasty DE habits,it doesn't take long before it's "no more Mr Nice Guy" and you're chasing down the guy in front while keeping the guy behind from passing you !
BY the end of this season,i managed to knock off 8 seconds a lap as compared to the first time in my life that i ever drove a 944 ... ever ... at LCMT
Don't even hesitate ,you're going to love it
Cheers

Frank,
I bought a spec 944 race car this year - these are really terrific, cost effective track cars. Lots of similar classes/cars but buy the a car that fits into class/club you want to run with. A spec 944 can be run with PCA as a SP1 and with NASA. There is also the similar classes with SCCA and 944 Cup.
