Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo lap by Aaron Povoledo
Had a LOT of fun working with Chris Musante and Joe Courtney's three-car team at the support races for Petit LeMans this week! There was no question that we brought a gun to a knife fight with the driving talent (Corey Lewis and Aaron Povoledo) that we had in the Pro division at the TUSCC race at VIR in August.
At Road Atlanta, several teams decided to do the same thing... Andy Lally, Pierre Kleinubing, Justin Marks, Terry Borcheller and Lawson Aschenbach all were brought in to help prevent a repeat of our crushing victories at VIR.
But all that talent couldn't stop us...
Here's a fast lap on the way to P1 in the final race by Aaron Povoledo.

It's not a fair race, they had Peter Krause on their side!
That was a great hot lap and while I do drink the Porsche Kool-Aid, those Lambos sound amazing.

Mike, not only that, BOTH drivers beat a ALL of them on race pace...
While I appreciate and value the experience many of the top line pro drivers bring to the table, lapping and especially race performance execution are dependent on choices made every moment, before and during their time on track.
Two things...
"Every driver bleeds red." That means that those dedicated to the study, planning and execution of an extraordinarily detailed brief, trained and conditioned physiologically and in proper mental approach, can beat other drivers who posess demonstrated success and a high skill level. Period.
Second, our drivers worked well with the crew in rubbing on the car, so that it was the best it could be, come race time (which it was). They both worked well with me, poring over the data and video, helping each other optimize each other.
While one of our drivers used, as motivation, the specter of racing against ostensibly superior competitors to energize and drive forward the team preparations, the other driver (at least outwardly) was sanguine, comfortable in the knowledge that if he executed the best he could, they would do well, no matter WHO they were racing!
I believe that anyone and everyone can be beat. The data proves it! <grin>

And Pierre drove the whole race unencumbered, Lawson had Justin Marks with him, no slouch...

Dillon is a marvelous young driver, I have followed his ascent with interest from Spec Miata on. He probably should be classed as a Pro, having driven one of the Mitchum ST entries this year in CTSCC, but your "straight up" observation is not quite accurate.
In the first race, the top four cars all had to pit twice, due to left rear tire failures, some of which occurred at vMax just past Black Flag (Turn 9) on the back straight.
Lally, Aschenbach, Kleinubing and Povoledo, all in their second stints (after the mandatory pit stop) had to stop again for tires, whereas Dillon (P1) and Cody Ware (P2 and another youngster I think very highly of) did not.
Povoledo emerged from the second stop in seventh and passed for the final podium spot on the next to last lap.
Dillon and Cody will have their day, but this is a wonderful sport in that age does provide useful experience and sometimes, even enhanced skill!

Yes. It's heavy. Yes, it's AWD. Kept standing them up but still too hot inside...
