Remember, this system can generate .drk and .gpk logging files standalone. The new camera can't do that. Good deal, GLWS, Frank!

Peter
Please explain?
Are you saying that the new HD needs to be connected to some other data device for data logging files?

The old SC will record all the data for analysis in RS2 regardless if there is a logger attached or not. The SCHD only records the video.

Great deal! The mount is $100 by itself.

Yes, Bob. The new HD SC is the same price as the old one, but to do that, they took the internal GPS antenna out and the logging feature out. The latest standard definition all-in-one SC's didn't have an internal antenna either, because most folks found that it didn't work well inside a closed car very well, so they took it out in the last revisions.

I was one of the folks that made people aware early on (including other dealers and the manufacturer's representatives!?!) that the original SC and SC GP could function as basic, standalone loggers generating the same data files that the Solo does with or without the accelerometers enabled. Pretty cool stuff!

So, the new HD cam needs external power ($49 or an ECU or RPM bridge, $249 and $219, respectively) and a GPS antenna ($149) to function standalone.

OR, you can slave it (connect it to an existing MXL/EVO4/Solo DL or the new dashes coming) and it gets power and GPS from them.

This used standard camera is a deal for someone who is an instructor and would like to have a portable camera/logging solution transferable from car to car easily, especially using a suction cup on the inside of the windshield.

I sold my car, as you know, and have plans to drive other rides for now. I figure that at the rate things are presently evolving by the time I get another car (two years) everything will be better and I'll want the newest stuff anyway.

I figure most of this tech is on a three to four-year cycle. Worth buying if the latest release is out in the last eighteen to thirty months.

Considering that the SC HD is the latest release (four years after the original SC) and the Solo DL and EVO 4 all use the latest hardware engine, you can feel pretty good about any AIM product you can buy now except the MXL.

Frank - If you want the basic data the old SC will provide for your new ride(s) I doubt there is anything out there at that price range that is so easy to PnP. Your rentals may come with data also? If you just want video a Go-Pro or Reply is much better than either SC IMO..

The "everywhere (almost)" must be those locked videos I keep trying to break into...
