Default Wheel studs- worth checking and/or replacing

After 15 mins into 40 min race it felt like a bit of clag on the tires then less than half a lap later- all 5 studs let go going into T12 at Barber.
Car did a full 360 ending just off track with the rear wheel going across track to the infield.
Car gets nutted and bolted after each w/e. These just should have been replaced this year.

Where the studs and the wheel used to be:

Ouch. Hopefully you and the car are OK....

OK so how old are the studs, how much TQ do you apply, and how long are they. I would also look for any bearing play back there while I was messing around. Oh and spin the wheel...

All good thanks John (aside from what you see and suspension arm).
After a quick pirouette the car just dug in a soon as it went off track and trenched a bit then stopped.

You got lucky. I'm sure you can think of a 100 other places so the tracks you run where that would have been a disaster.

Wheel studs don't often fail. Check everything from the stub axels on your new tranny outwards.....

David, that could have ended much worse, especially when the car dug in. Yikes...glad you and the car are pretty much OK.

Thanks all.
Not sure what brand they are. More to the point they are about 100 hrs old and seen a lot of hard use. My tech says on an RSR they get replaced after 30 hrs. To be sure it's not an RSR but solid mounts and slicks put a lot of stress on parts.

Got pole and win on Sat - Sunday the same and set my best time until **** happened.
Could have been much worse.

David, are you running spacers or was that just wheel to hub? I'm looking at studs and spacers now for the Boxster and wondering what the right products to use are.

Are factory lug bolts prone to failure on a 996? If not, why switch to studs?
