Perhaps this is the physics version of "running out of other people's money". Alas, they are still too stupid to get rid of it entirely as there are Iowa lobbyists to placate.

Oh, on the link, in Austin Power's voice: "that's a man, baby".

Physics is a bi*ch . . .

Until they can figure out how to plant, fertilize, harvest, and process (not just grow) with solar (or wind), the use of dino in the "creation" of ethanol is the Achilles Heal of ethanol's (negative) energy creation. What nature has done over millions of years to create coal, oil, and natural gas, cannot be so easily duplicated with yearly harvests of dino based commercial farming and dino based distilleries.

There is a reason Iowa fights to remain the first primary.

I expect to see push back on the 2025 Cafe standards as well. Demand is inadequate and cost to high for what the manufacturers are being forced to produce.

E85 does make a cheap high octane fuel, and flies under the radar as pump gas. It's worth an amazing amount of performance on the BRZ/FRS twins when they are tuned for it.

So for purely selfish reasons, I hope it stays around. :-)

There's nothing wrong with ethanol per se in fuels, it's that fact that they're using corn-based ethanol. Corn is one of the most energy intensive crops and it's a significant food crop. Talk about a bone-headed government mandate.

If ethanol is ever to make sense as a fuel it will have to be cellulosic ethanol made from plant or tree waste.

^^^ Totally agree, and if clearing up the politcal BS means losing E85, I'd be for it. In the big picture, it makes little sense (especially from corn), just a happy coincidence for my narrow self-interest! I say this looking at several hundred acres of corn out my back window.
