Definitely a correlation between disposable income and age, with the outliers being part of the "lucky sperm club." In spec miata, I'd say the avergae age is about 10-15 years less than than rest of the SCCA and PCA.

Same with Karting ... the average age is what something like 18? Maybe 20? It's too bad some of these teenagers/young adults never progress further in their racing careers. Some of them are incredible racers. It's just a fact of life that unless you are part of the "lucky sperm club", racing at the more advanced levels is about having disposable income and most young'uns don't have a lot of disposable income for racing (I know I didn't have it when I was younger). **** all the cool things I have done in life "flying airplanes, jumping out of airplanes, driving Porsches on race tracks and racing Karts" happened in my late 30s and 40s.

As one of the "young" guys who started early, can I be in the works my butt off category instead of the lucky sperm club?

I started doing "Autosprints" and Hillclimbs in 1966. Went to SCCA Drivers School at Marlboro and Watkins Glen (No Boot or Blue Bushes) in 1968. Ran SCCA "National" series and won a slot to the Run-Offs at Road Atlanta in 1973. Got married and had kids and tapered off racing. Bought a Cayman and discovered DEs in 2008. I've done 93 track days mostly in instructor group since then. Sponsored by Social Security.

I worked my butt off as well, my profession just allows for early retirement. More time for racing now

Turning 51 next week. F*cking horrible. Recently there was a photographer at the track taking pics for a "Golden Years" project. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Anyhow, he took some nice pics!

Retirement at age 31?? Wow... I picked the wrong profession. Didn't you used to be a pro athlete??

I'm 33, so I'm still barely in the youngsters group, though a good friend and PCA instructor who is a couple of years my junior was recently mistaken for my SON by the nice lady who runs the B&B that I stay at at the track. I guess I have some city miles on me.

I've already made the mistake of sharing that at the track, so putting it on the internet can't hurt.

Started when I was 23 now 33. I drove my dads stock 914 he was a black student. Drove two years. Built my race car thanks to a good job and no family. Now I have a family and am on my 3rd year of racing. So expensive, with mortgage and kids in daycare. Hope some day i have the budget to build my car up to be competitive in GT4. I have been instructing for 6 years but no longer do it because I feel the cars are faster then the students, and the risk is to big. I am definitely one of the young guys racing in PCA. Maybe some day I can be as pretty and as fast as YONKER!
