Yep, Jim is really, REALLY good. And confident!
Here's another one that I think is certifiable...

Damn. That looks to be like one uncomfortable beast. It looks like his legs are pointing towards the other side of the car with his knees pinned up against the lower dash.

great video!
I noticed in a number of places his downshifts are 5-2, not 5-4-3-2...is that to protect the gearbox/clutch or...?
I would think a 5-2 downshift would make it much easier to damage the engine accidentally.

Maybe efficiency? Old, clunky gearshift, takes longer to shift, etc? Or just personal preference, maybe.

Three Wheelin'
I didn't watch close enough on this video, but I watched another from him in a Lola. He was double clutching, so my guess is that for ease of driving he's skipping gears to allow for easier double clutch downshifts. Less to do.

Those old McLaren Can am cars are amazing. Look at how little he needs to turn the wheel....the steering wheel is the pedal on the right!
A former employer of mine builds headers for these cars....2.25" primaries....think about that.

Race Car
Ha, JP was my skippy instructor.
the best part of the weekend was the instructor race...
seeing these guys throw the car into a 4 wheel drift in a Club Ford no less, at T1 (moroso) a 300 degree constant radius turn...

The Hewland DG and LG boxes use gears so large that they cannot be rushed.
JP would not make an error or adopt a methodology that would increase the risk of an error.
It's not his car...
Great car (originally Oscar Kovaleski's PRDA and Auto World Can Am entry!

makes sense, you just don't see that very often, at least not in modern cars.
