Yoko AD08 or Michelin Pilot Sport Cups for DE?
Trying to determine whether to spend $$$ on Japanese or French tech.
Car is 993 4S, lowered roll center / ride height / -2.2 front camber, -1.8 rear camber
Driver is "timid", but safe, (I tend to drive more to grip, not slip).
Will only be driving in the dry, hey, it's So Cal.
Will do 3 - 4 DEs a year in So. Cal.
Fontana
Chuckwalla
Streets of Willow
Tyre sizes will be either 235 / 285 or 235 / 295 whichever sizes best keep AWD happy.
Any obvious reason to choose one over the other?
I had good luck with AD07s, but hear lottsa good things re the Cups.
Goal(s) = be safe, have fun, learn, come back with no bent sheet metal.
Thanks
Craig

I love AD08s, on both my (now gone) 911 Turbo and my M3. One thing about using them as a DE tire is that they don't produce much, if any, squeal at the limit. If you're looking for auditory feedback, look elsewhere...

I propose that you have the wrong candidate from Michelin. I use AD08 as a "drive to the track/rain tire" on Cayman, MPSS on GT3. Once I finish burning up the AD08's, I will get more MPSS. MPSS is (IMO) as good on the track in the dry, better in the wet, and is WAY better on the street for noise and comfort (i.e., your significant other will bitch less about the harsh ride).

I've been using MPSC for about 10 years now and just recentlly tried another tire and was not happy, so went back to the MPSCs. They last a good amount of time and provide a solid feel and grip. Love them.

I agree with the above, AD08s are more accurately compared to MPSS. in which case the SuperSport is the way to go.
oddly though, if deciding between AD08s and SportCups, I'd take the AD08s; they tend to last more heat cycles before losing their grip.

w/ AWD i'd stay w/ factory spec 225/40 & 265/35 or 225/40 & 285/30 or if you go bigger 245/35 & 285/30

Thanks for the feedback, I've been leaning towards the AD08s, but recently met a MPSC proselytizer.
I'll also check out the MPSS.
I have used NT01s and as you say they do sing a loud song on the HWY.
Cheers

Have you guys looked at Hankooks R-S3
Hankook makes great tires
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....el=Ventus+R-S3
Not R compound, but a good dual use tire.
