ALONSO'S MANAGER MET WITH CHRISTIAN HORNER IN HUNGARY
Sunday 28 July at 13:35 : Jul.28 (GMM) A shock new contender could have leapt into contention to become F1's newest Red Bull driver in 2014.
Germany's Sport Bild claims team boss Christian Horner met with Luis Garcia Abad in the Red Bull motor home in Hungary.
He is Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso's manager.
Sport Bild correspondents Bianca Garloff and Ralf Bach report that Red Bull confirmed the meeting took place, at the behest of Alonso's management.
Photos of the meeting were even published.
Spaniard Alonso is under firm contract to Ferrari for 2014, meaning that the two-time world champion or Red Bull would have to buy out the deal if he really jumps ship to become Sebastian Vettel's new teammate.
"A decision is expected in the next seven days," read the Sport Bild report.
I'd like to see how Vettel handles a teammate like Fred.
He would still have Mateschitz tucked firmly under his *******, so the real drama would occur as the team finds new & exciting ways to screw Fred (like they've screwed Webber).
Unless Red Bull really need Santander to step in financially this is probably a bad move for Alonso. Webber wasn't one of the top three (four if you include Raikkonen) drivers but with the way Red Bull have favored Vettel I don't see both drivers getting a fair shot. My guess is that Alonso would be the odd man out here. Ferrari's got Byrne helping with the design of next year's car so hopefully that will help his cause at Ferrari. They'll need to get the basic design right so the different, following iterations of the 2014 car are competitive as well. RB has dominated the 2009-2013 iteration and no one has been able to touch them.
Hmmm... Pull Alonso from Ferrari, give him second rate support, just enough to keep him in the points for mfgr but not enough to challenge Vettel... Best if all worlds, while crippling Ferrari in the process...
"Hey guys where did we put all of those cross threaded wheel nots? I have a plan...."
If F1 becomes NASCAR - script writers, here is what I want to see.
Car-on-car collision, 5 laps before checker, Alonso and Vettle....skid out into gravel trap. Helmets off...vettle comes out swinging, Alonso ducks, upper cut, knee to the groin....vettle, having anticipated move (and wearing a cup, despite 16oz weight tradeoff), comes back, bear hugs alonso at the waist and throws him down into the gravel. One of the cars catches fire, but corner worker too busy watching, trying to decide if they should intervene....back in the garage...a scuttle breaks out, fire extinguishers come out....track goes to full course yellow...rebbull girls start cat-fighting.....
