No need for the stress of the pullover.

*next time, as for their card....

AFAIK, cops don't just give out their cards.... if you can show their card, when pulled over Next time, it could help you.

Good idea.........I will call my mechanic and make sure he gets the officer's card when he brings his 911 for repair.....

A lot of cops are car nuts just like the rest of us. This is not the 1st time I've heard a story like this.

Once in a while when towing the race car I've had a cop hit their siren and drive by giving us a thumbs up.

I can appreciate the thumbs up or whatever, but gettig pulled over with sirens and all for NO real reason? C'mon, like we have nothing better to do than waste our time satisfying the whimsical curiousity of some cop. Total abuse of power and totally unprofessional.

It's not that big of a deal. If he came over and talked to you at a gas station, would you be mad that he detained you?

If I put some blue lights on the roof of my car and used them to get drivers' attention when I have a quick question, I'd get thrown in jail. If an officer has official business with me, then of course pull me over and let's sort it out. If not, then I'm sorry but our interaction should be on my time and my terms. Pulling someone to the side of the road is not the same as walking up to them at a gas station. You can walk up to anyone and start talking - any citizen can - but only certain officers of the law may signal another driver to pull over and expect them to comply.

Many, many years ago, I actually hate to even admit how long ago, I was driving my brand new '70 Datsun 240Z down I-95 in Virginia. Late at night and abusing the speed limit somewhat :-). Out of nowhere a patrol car pulled up along side me. He turned on his interior lights, looked me over, gave me a big thumbs up, put the pedal to the metal, and blew on down the highway. What the hey, car guys come in all shapes, sizes and uniforms.

Similar happened to me many years ago....
I was driving my 993 cab and only a couple miles from home when a state trooper pulls me over. He says I was going a tad fast -probably enough for a ticket -, but really wanted to know who worked on my car because he just bought a 78 Turbo and it was running terribly. I told him, we chatted a bit, he told me to slow down, and off he went. Never heard from him again.

Then, just last year I'm at a different mechanic shop (original one moved away and head mechanic left) and an officer comes in to check on the new engine build of his 78 turbo. We start a conversation and I learn he lives right near me....and where I got pulled over. I ask if "many years ago, did you pull over a 993 cab to find out where to get your car worked on?" He remembered it!! We laughed, and have become friends since. I see him a lot on roads near us....good to have friends like that!

Oh, and his car is wicked fast...new place did a phenomenal job on it...
