Kick it, Steve, that is awesome! Focus...same things we worked on at COTA only with a less powerfuul car.
And agree about Miatas and SRF's as learning tools.

Best of luck Steve. You are right about a Miata being good training esp. for a Cayman. I just switched from a Miata to a Cayman S (for DE and not that set-up; I still race the Miata) and I still retain the urge to not brake. It works, for the most part. Cay is a whole lot heavier and bigger though. Looks like you are doing great!

yesterday was rolling start, today was standing start. needless to say, my 2nd standing start, first in a cayman and first without launch control. i muffed it up, and muffed up the restart else i migh thave been a 4, but rallied back for asecond 6th place on the weekend.
i had some awesome battles with pete cunningham in his Acura and Nic Jonsson and i went about 15 laps nose to tail . but you quickly realize why those guys are seasoned pros with full time rides and im , well, not. they were flawless and every time i had an opp to pounce, it was some small hiccup, some little bobble.
the cayman was ridiculous compliant, drove on rails. i had the best lines of many of the cars from turn 1 to the left hander, but i think we were lite on power compared to the cars i was around. the camaros, acuras and kias, and mustangs all pulled on us 3,4 ,5 lengths on the front straight even fi i got a great run and was in their draft. thats just racing, some cars have better brakes and aero and grip, and others have grunt. jack baldwin did killer up top winning the 2nd race in a very similar cayman.
two top 6s for me in WC was a nice accomplishment, but i also felt my tactical awareness and feel for the car, being able to bend it when necessary and when not really came up. i think the 3,4 lengths might be motor, but also just being faster thru the downill and back to power than 1/10th of a second earlier...but also motor<G>
i'll post up some vids later or tomorrow, some really fun stuff there.
go caymans!

Here the vid:
overall, i was pleased. Tiv and Heinlein Racing Development gave me a great car, the setup was just perfect. i thought overall i drove right to the max of my ability. more experience will come and ill get better at the re-starts. i actually had a game plan and thought it would go better. i need to lay bak and time the run better. the 8 cyl American muscle cars, the turbos just have way more gitty-up and torque than the cayman. i need a better run.
listen, i think we'd all love to jump into a pro series and podium or come up with a miraculous win. reality is, everyone ahead of me and a bunch behind were experience, seasoned pro drivers in super developed cars, that are on track 200 days a year kind of thing. i could have done some stupid things, i could have shoved into some corners, or pushed on someone, defended a bit more, etc. that would have been pretty disrespectful i think to those who chase a championship all season. if i were at every race and some guy doing 1,2,3 one-off races knocked me off with "nothing to lose", id be pissed. nic Jonsson was so nice and complementary after the race ,and he was trying to give some ideas and telling me abou this ABS issues, etc. Dude makes a living racing out there getting KIA to back him, chasing championships they way he worked so hard to get a Grand Am championship for kia, and every spot matters. had i been faster, i take the spot. i wasnt faster, i wasnt any better, he had a wounded car and i couldnt get around him without levering on him. i was just fine with the result.
anyway, it was fun. really fun series.
anyway, here's the vid. my son who told me i totally failed, yo, in not getting 5th put it together.
my son calling it like it is.
