In the 60s I ran what is now called configuration 3. There was no bus stop but a chicane located in the same area. Club racers used the chicane, F1 did not. The was no guard rail, spectators were separated from the race cars by turkey wire fence. The S/F line was between the current turns 1 & 2. I last raced there in 1974 or 75. The Boot was in place but I don't remember all of the guard rail.

I know my Dad and Brother took me there in the sixties, can't remember too young.
First memory was Camel GT series, I think in the early 80s.

Hey, the sky is the limit! Seriously, we've all benefitted greatly.
So glad this track has come back from the dead (1982-1984), amazing rebirth.

When I first went to the Glen in 1980 there was "chicane" in Turn #2 to slow one down thru the esses. I t was made of asphalt but was not continuous..sort of like 1/2 asphalt basketballs glued to the track..gone by 1984.

As now, the road crested at the exit of the current bus stop, but approaching straight on, it crested during the "speed adjustment" phase. Wow!
Sort of like The Dip at Road Atlanta, it was one of the things that made The Glen special, spoken about in the same way the Esses are now.
But after Tommy Kendall's massive and unfortunate accident, and JD McDuffie's death a year later, something had to change...

I love the Bus Stop! It's one of the best places to work on braking and carrying entry speed since it's got the cutoff that you can bail out if you get scared (or it's not working out). Just like the escape road at Lime Rock, every lap of a DE is a great learning opportunity.
