996 3.4 bored out to 3.6 Engine Rebuild
1999 996 with a 3.4 that has been bored out to 3.6...looks like it needs a rebuild. East coast shop recommendations that can turn it around quickly? Not sure of the extent of damage, it just died on Thunderbolt last week. The engine hasn't been dropped as of yet. So far, metal flakes in the oil filter...no money shift or anything like that...it just made a noise while rolling on the throttle mid-turn and died. Not an electrical or battery issue. Shop got it to fire back up the next day, but oil pressure was low and cylinder 5 is not working. I'm preparing for the worst, but if it is rebuildable, want to know of anyone's personal experience with such a job and a shop that can turn this around before The Glen.
Thx!

I would love to know what happened once you get it apart. We haven't talked about any failures with sleeved M96 motors that I can remember....
I always recommend Jerry Peligrino of EPE in Mass. He did my cup motor which was fabulous and lasted 150+ hours without a failure....

Peter and his sons at Dawes Motorsports build many race winning engines for a bunch of northeast racers on this board. They are great guys to deal with and know how to make power!

The car was purchased with an existing GTB1 logbook and had been raced in PCA for several years before I bought it prior to my first season last year. So, it was legal since the logbook reflects the 3.6 change. As to how...Mark, I truly don't know.
JR, the control rod bolt broke (probably stretched over time), sending the rod in cylinder number 5 through the crank.
Looks like I will be going to a traditional 3.6 and swapping out the DME, egas, etc. to make it work. Apparently, finding a repairable 3.4 core is like trying to find a virgin at the Spearmint Rhino. (God, I miss Vegas.)
