SmartyCam SD Card not present message
And yet, it is.
Haven't used the Smarty since last fall. Charged it up, put card in, error message says 'no card present.' hmm, says I, because it's the same card that was working last October and there are no changes to any settings.
Checked card and it is formatted correctly and readable in laptop.
Firmware and software up-to-date.
Tried other good cards, same error message.
Reformatted card - same error.
Any thoughts what might be wrong here?
Thanks in advance

make sure the firmware and software is the most recent.
smarty cam seems to be super susceptible to this type of error in my experience.
short of that, send it to the AIM guys for a repair (Cameron @ 540-342-9680). They fixed mine over the end of the year holidays in about 2 weeks.

Assuming have you tried a different card just for sanity, the contacts may have corroded during off season. Insert and remove the card repeatedly. The intent is to rub the contacts a bit as a crude form of cleaning. The slot is too small to get a tool in there, but the friction might do the trick. If this doesn't work, you can get some contact cleaner from radio shack, put a small amount on the copper contacts and put the card back in and leave for a bit. Insert and remove a few times after a few minutes.

The card doesn't seem to 'latch' in the slot as well as it used to, either. Could be related.

Tried that, too. Both cards were formatted then reformatted.
BUT - I now tried yet another card, this one a 32 gig, which until recently was not supported by Smarty, and - it worked!
So, 2 cards that work fine in the laptop and used to work in Smarty wouldn't work now.
But a new card that I had for my helmet cam does work.
I am still going to talk with AiM. I'd like to know that I can count on this thing working when I need it.

I had the "NO Card present" issue with my GoPro Hero3, WHILE I was using the GoPro. It was working, and then it wasn't, with the No Card message. Turns out that the card somehow or another went bad. I sent it back to SanDisk, they tested it, said it was indeed dead, and sent me a new card. Works fine ever since. So, those SD cards can go bad.

I suppose that could be, but it works fine in laptop, but not in Smarty.
Waiting for AiM to respond.
