If you go that far with it, why not run a proper sequential then?

I assume those of you willing to drop $100k+ on a re-engined Cayman have no problem with the $80k or so in depreciation? you're pretty much relegating that car to the RL classifieds for eternity

^^^^^^^
That would be a car!
But I would rather just have the 991 GT3... easier to parallel park with 4 wheel steering.

Since when do these cars have to make financial sense?

I'd happily take the 3.8 Cayman off your hands afterward.

A balanced pairing? The PDK with 3.8L awaiting the 4.0L crank shaft call to duty and the 991 with track goodies BUT with a 7-speed manual, awaiting the Power Kit.

The Cayman has full race everything but still has the interior. Which would you choose?

Interesting question. If I understand correctly, I think you are asking about the relative saleability of the three were you to build same out -

Small statistical sample for sure but most I know (all upper run grp guys) have moved more toward limiting exposure (money sense) in their track cars. Many BMWs, SpecBoxes, older 911 platforms. The prior track cars ranged from.2Gt3RSs to Cup Lotuses, and all in between.. So, if you're looking at the 'track market' its something to consider. That said, I dont know if that is a trend or a local anomally...

Personally, of the 3 I would go with the built out Cay first, built out CS second, and out of the box 1GT3 third (the reliability and maintenance costs of using the 991GT3 as a track weapon scare me quite honestly altho it will be a fast car).

John
Good Q for cerebral masterbating
If u expect to get real Benjamin's, for every 1000 gt3 u sell, u MIGHT get someone to pay for a cayman.

Even if PAG made it and full warranty blah blah with gt3 motor and does 1:25 at LS, gt3 will sill outsell it.

This had been done b4
944 turbo faster mre banded than 911
911 here today
Where is 944 turbo

Poor ppl buy cayman
When cayman is 200,000USD and gt2 is 100,000USD u will still hear only poor man buys cayman.

Strang but true

Unfortunately you hit the nail on the head. I think that a lot of people that "love the Cayman" wouldn't want to drive one on the street. I think that I like it because it costs less and performs alsmot as well, even better with a 3.8L transplant, but at the end of the day I feel everyone thinks it's a lesser developed, cheaper copy of the "real thing." It's disappointing!

I desparately want to say the Cayman, but the longer I'm at this ( the more I switch cars) the more sensitive I get to the concept of how easily I can get out of a car and how much of a hit I need to take to do it. So I'd say GT3...Very very capable while still streetable and good resale.
