Hopefully not to hijack this thread, but to complement it...

In addition to suggestions for great video, I would also be interested to hear some suggestions for how to get great audio from a GoPro. From my experience, wind noise interferes with the lovely sound of engine/exhaust.

Thanks.

I use an I/O Port mount between the camera and the roll bar. This give me great flexibility to position the camera.

+1 on the I/O Port mount, I use that too.

Ha. It's not a perfect angle, but you can see both my hands all the time. I chose one of the rare times when I was still on the track for my screen grab, and it happens that I was in shadow.

I have learned from this that I seem to adjust my grip quite often. I don't know how wrong this is, but it *looks* bad.

That's great! That's what it's for. We don't recognize those things while we're in the car.

Sometimes, that can be due to hands cramping or creeping closer together.

It's only a problem if it limits your response to a wayward car or affects adversely your precision.

[QUOTE=ProCoach;10291456]IMO, the greatest value of the GoPro is seeing your inputs and the car's response.

Without the view of your hands (at least your right hand), I find it difficult to tell much more than what line you're running.

I suggest experimenting with the 5 different video modes and different mounting points; I use two GoPro Hero 2's:
For my master shot I mount the camera on the rollbar (using the GoPro rollbar mount) shooting in mode 5 using the spot meter feature (important!).
I use a second GoPro in mode 2 (wider angle) w/o spot metering, mostly with the suction cup mount on the outside of the car. I move this #2 camera around the car from session to session during the day, and cut it all together using just the audio from the master shot for continuity.
I'm still getting the hang of this but I find that two cameras gives me lots of options for editing.
I'd love to integrate with a Traqmate to add data, etc. -- but I'm still a little overwhelmed by all that.
Hope this helps.

What software are you using to cut and splice your GoPro videos?

Pinnacle Studio. It's not perfect but I was able to figure it out after some thrashing. I suspect iMovie's a lot simpler but my desktop is a PC.

Excellent post! Thanks!

If you can navigate Pinnacle, I can help you through TraqStudio integration, plus the Traqmate turns on and off the GoPros, saving card space and battery!

Thanks, everyone.

I'm gonna try moving the Go Pro from the top roll bar to the diagonal and using the spot meter.

Nice line through T5.

I'd get seasick watching too much of the "Skeen view", though!
